Senior Procurement Officer

As a Senior Procurement Officer, you’ll be able to work on a range of different categories of spend – this may be communications and marketing, IT, consultancy, professional services, and facilities management.

Working hours: 35 hours per week is full time. Where possible, we are open to considering part time/flexible working patterns. Please let us know in your application your desired working pattern.

Salary: Starting from £45,000

Contract: 16 month FTC

Reporting to: Head of Procurement

London docklands or Coventry

Our permanent hybrid policy sees us all working at least four days across a fortnight in the office.

The main role of our procurement team is to make sure that we’re providing an efficient and effective procurement service to internal customers. Our role in managing and maintaining the supply of goods and services to the Ombudsman is vital to our smooth operation. As a Senior Procurement Officer, you’ll be able to work on a range of different categories of spend – this may be communications and marketing, IT, consultancy, professional services and facilities management.

You will take ownership of procurement projects (RfQs and RfPs) and running full tenders which can range between £30k and £Ms. You’ll be responsible for maintaining our procurement systems; Workday (P2P), Jaggaer (e-Procurement system) and Hornbill (procurement ticketing system). In addition, you will be responsible for developing a range of management information reports for contract managers up to our senior leaders and Board – supporting the Procurement Officers who will be running them.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintaining and managing relationships with the internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders on procurement projects and initiatives.
  • Drafting approval documents such as procurement strategies, tender evaluation reports and single tender actions.
  • Drafting tender documents, configuring, and running tender events on our e-procurement tool - Jaggaer.
  • Managing procurement projects and RfPs for a range of property related and other services.
  • Analysing information from various sources and using your skills to identify opportunities to source alternative suppliers and reduce our costs.
  • Keeping your knowledge up to date as procurement legislation evolves.
  • Taking personal responsibility for delivering on your objectives in line with our values.

Minimum Criteria

  • Having a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, in particular manipulating data in Excel and writing reports in Word.
  • Having sound experience and knowledge of public sector procurement.
  • Experience in running open procurement competitions and call off contracts using existing public sector frameworks and understanding UK public procurement legislation.
  • Experience in ethical procurement practice.
  • Using your strong numeracy skills to analyse data.

Desirable Criteria

We would also like you to have the following skills:

  • Strong communications skills to guide a range of internal and external stakeholders through processes. Previous experience of running training sessions is desirable but not essential.
  • Being inquisitive and able to think logically – you’ll understand and identify with our key stakeholder needs and queries and have the confidence to provide accurate advice.
  • Using your initiative to identify areas where systems and processes can be improved.
