We also help industries and governments to navigate the many complex, interrelated transitions taking place globally and regionally, in the energy industry.

DNV Energy Systems Risk Advisory is seeking Senior and Principal Safety Consultant to join our Stockport office. Working in cross functional consulting teams involved in project delivery, project management and business development. We support clients from a wide range of major hazard sectors, including government agencies, energy producers and distributors, chemical manufacturers, renewables developers, and oil and gas operators. With our advanced research programmes in hydrogen, carbon capture and renewables, coupled with our world leading modelling capability and deep process safety management expertise, we are at the forefront of helping clients navigate the energy transition.

Risk Advisory is a growing department of approximately 150 people in our Energy Systems business area, with offices in Aberdeen, Loughborough, Stockport and London. We provide a wide range of safety and integrity engineering and risk management services to the energy industry both onshore and offshore. We utilise a comprehensive range of tools for consequence modelling and risk analysis, typically developed and validated through large/full scale experiments performed at our major hazards testing and research facility in Spadeadam.

Our Opportunity:

As a Senior/Principal Safety Consultant, your role will involve interacting with customers and colleagues across our business to collaborate on technical problems and to develop solutions. You will contribute to establishing the UK Risk Advisory strategy and driving its implementation by involving a wide range of team members, providing project QA and technical direction. In this role, you will lead the delivery of safety-related projects, ensuring they meet scope, budget, and customer expectations, while coordinating support from multidisciplinary teams. You’ll share your expertise across project activities, mentor junior staff, and delegate appropriately to focus on complex challenges. Your insights into customer needs will help shape and grow our service offerings, and you’ll contribute to department-wide consistency through collaboration and knowledge sharing. Innovation is key—you’ll continuously seek ways to enhance delivery processes and tackle novel problems using your technical expertise.

Your approach will balance technical innovation with practical delivery, tackling complex challenges through deep expertise and broad industry knowledge. As a trusted advisor, fostering long-term client relationships, you'll utilise your strong understanding of client priorities and strategic industry trends/insights, to influence decision-making, maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and drive repeat business. You will strategically engage with the market through wider activities to showcase DNV capabilities, for example, professional / industry bodies, conferences, JIPs, external publications, or social media.

You will foster strong teamwork across our departments, build regional networks, and drive results. You’ll have the ability to lead project teams to successful delivery, ensuring alignment with scope, budget, and schedule, while supporting others to do the same. With a strong commercial mindset, you’ll contribute to business growth by securing new opportunities—both for yourself and others—while actively developing services that meet evolving client needs.

We place great value on all our people and the contribution they make to our business, so it’s important that our rewards make us all feel valued here. That’s why we recognise individual needs and offer a flexible reward and benefits package that puts you first, including;
