Job description

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior / Principal Geotechnical Consultant to join our growing Geo Division in our Birmingham office.

The Team – Our Geo Division

Geo is one of our core disciplines and is constantly growing. Some of the executive board have come from a Geo background!

We are a leading consultancy firm specialising in geo-environmental and geotechnical engineering. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, we deliver high-quality solutions to clients across various sectors, including renewables, commercial, industrial, residential, infrastructure, and aviation.

The Role

Our geotechnical design team advises on scoping of site investigations, interpretation of field data, production of geotechnical design reports, and construction phase support. A number of our forthcoming projects involve large-scale earthworks, including surcharging, ground improvements, and interactions with our remediation team. We also develop optioneering systems and promote viable alternatives to the standard approaches, which includes challenging brownfield sites.

We are looking for someone who has been working in the field for a number of years and is ready to take that next step in their development.

What skills and attributes are we looking for?

  • Geotechnical practitioners with substantial design experience gained in the UK.
  • Strong understanding of soil mechanics and soil/structure interaction.
  • Significant geotechnical design experience including writing GDR and EWS (to CD622 and EC7).
  • BEng, BSc or higher qualification in Geotechnical or Civil Engineering and Chartered Member of a relevant institution. Alternatively, a first degree in Geology with an MSc in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Thorough understanding of ground investigation techniques and experience in specifying geotechnical testing (in-situ and laboratory) while interpreting results accurately.
  • Experience in the specification and design of geotechnical structures (foundations, earthworks, ground improvement, slopes, embankments, gravity structures, nails, anchors, embedded walls, etc.).
  • Experience in the design, supervision, and verification of earthworks projects is highly desirable.
  • A working knowledge of software tools such as Oasys Pile, Alp, PDisp, Adsec, ADC, Rocscience Slide, WALLAP, AutoCAD, and Excel. Some experience in the use of Plaxis 3D or other FE software would be desirable.
  • Experienced in writing interpretive geotechnical reports.
  • Self-motivated team player with good people skills.
  • Integrity and credibility. People want to work with you (customers and colleagues).
  • Believes in our ethos.
