Job Description:

Opportunity:

We are looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer to join the electronics development team for a key programme in Leonardo's Advanced Targeting Sector.

Advanced Targeting is an area that has a number of significant growth opportunities due to a strong pipeline of work, and this position is primarily looking to fill a vacancy on the DragonFire system, a cutting-edge Laser Directed Energy Weapon. You will be working within a multi-disciplined delivery team with responsibility across the full Engineering Lifecycle from requirements capture to final delivery.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a highly skilled team at a time of significant growth of the DragonFire programme.

What you'll do as an Electronics Engineer:

  1. Join a team of around ten electronics engineers developing the DragonFire beam-director electronic hardware.
  2. Develop new DragonFire electronics through the full design lifecycle; from requirements analysis; concept development through design, build and test; to system integration; and lastly to acceptance test and delivery to the customer.
  3. You will work closely with Software, Firmware, Mechanical and Systems engineers to solve real integration problems on test systems.
  4. You will receive technical and personal developmental support from recognised industry experts in the fields on electro-optics and defence avionics.
  5. You will have ownership of assigned electronics work packages, planning your work and reporting progress to your team lead.
  6. Training will be delivered via a combination of on-the-job experience working alongside subject matter experts with many decades of experience, plus additional formal technical training delivered via taught courses depending on the business needs.

What we need from you:

  1. Degree qualified in Electronics Engineering or related science or equivalent work experience.
  2. Proficiency in at least one aspect of electronics design, for example: analogue, mixed-signal, digital or power electronics.
  3. Strong team-working and interpersonal skills are essential, and experience of coaching junior colleagues is very desirable.
  4. Knowledge of developing electronics within a development process framework.
  5. Experience in some areas of the design lifecycle, from requirements definition through to implementation, integration test and delivery.

It would be great if:

  1. You have experience with any of the following technologies: Electro-Optics, Lasers, Camera Imaging Systems, Servo Control Systems, Power Electronics, Safety Involved Hardware.
  2. Experience with Siemens Xpedition, or similar ECAD toolsets.
