At THG Ingenuity, we are entering a game-changing phase in our database evolution. We are launching a cutting-edge Database as a Service (DBaaS) platform, powered by PostgreSQL at its core, to drive scalability, efficiency, and innovation across our global operations.

To lead this transformation, we are looking for an experienced and passionate Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain highly available PostgreSQL database clusters.
  • Implement and manage replication, clustering, and failover mechanisms.
  • Monitor database performance, apply optimizations, and manage upgrades.
  • Plan and execute database migrations as part of major version upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain robust backup and recovery procedures.
  • Ensure database security, integrity, and availability through best practices.
  • Optimize query performance and database tuning.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design and optimize database schemas.
  • Utilise Kubernetes (K8s) for container orchestration and management of database services.
  • Manage and integrate PostgreSQL clustering technologies (e.g., Patroni, Consul, etcd).
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues efficiently.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation on database configurations, procedures, and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a PostgreSQL DBA in production environments.
  • Strong expertise of PostgreSQL architecture, performance tuning, and query optimization.
  • Experience with database backup, recovery, and security best practices.
  • Proficiency in SQL and PL/pgSQL.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes (K8s) for container orchestration.
  • Experience with Patroni for PostgreSQL high availability and failover management.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred skills:

  • Experience with automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
  • Knowledge of other database systems (e.g., SQL Server, Couchbase, MySQL).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with Consul for service discovery and configuration.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience in deploying and managing multi-region or multi-data centre database clusters.
