Role Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Database Administrator with experience in managing Oracle and PostgreSQL databases on Amazon RDS and EC2. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Terraform, DevOps practices and the use of RMAN for Oracle database backups. This position involves database design, deployment, optimisation and automation as well as performance tuning and incident resolution. Collaboration with developers, architects and DevOps teams is essential to ensure that data infrastructure meets business needs and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage, design and optimise Oracle and PostgreSQL databases on Amazon RDS and EC2 instances.
  2. Configure Oracle backups using RMAN for instances hosted on EC2.
  3. Support automation scripting for deployment and operations using Python, Bash or Terraform.
  4. Implement high availability and disaster recovery solutions such as RDS Multi-AZ, read replicas, PostgreSQL replication, EC2-based failover and Aurora global databases.
  5. Integrate database management into CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
  6. Use CloudWatch or other tools to monitor performance, database health and availability.
  7. Collaborate with DevOps, Security and Engineering teams to align database strategies with overall platform architecture.
  8. Troubleshoot complex incidents and optimize SQL, stored procedures and indexing strategies across business-critical applications.
  9. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior DBAs and developers on cloud database best practices.

Skills & Experience Required:

  1. 4+ years of DBA experience, including 3+ years in AWS cloud environments managing RDS and EC2 for Oracle and PostgreSQL.
  2. Experience with Aurora PostgreSQL or Oracle Goldengate.
  3. Proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and understanding of PostgreSQL functions and extensions. Skills in SQL performance optimisation including indexing strategies, execution plan analysis and understanding database internals.
  4. Exposure to automation tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible or scripting in Python/Bash.
  5. Knowledge of AWS services like IAM and CloudWatch.
  6. Familiarity with DevOps principles and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  7. Solid understanding of database security principles and compliance frameworks.
