Senior Planner (MRTPI) – Renewable Energy

Our client is a specialist developer of onshore renewable energy projects, with a rapidly growing pipeline.

They are under the umbrella of a private equity backed group of companies who develop, operate and invest in solar, energy storage, and onshore wind projects.

Due to sustained growth in the business, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced planner to join their specialist in-house town planning team, to help drive projects through planning milestones, making a significant contribution to UK Net Zero targets.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing team within an established and successful business, and to work with some of the industry’s leading experts on renewable energy projects – working alongside in-house grid, legal, finance, project development and construction delivery teams.

Working out of the client’s office in Gloucester, you will have WFH flexibility alongside a weekly office presence. This is a full time, permanent position.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the Planning Director and senior team in day-to-day planning activities.
  • Visiting sites across the UK to evaluate risk and project scope.
  • Supporting the business development team with site identification work.
  • Site feasibility appraisals and providing internal planning advice.
  • Preparing and submitting planning applications and supporting documents, including DCO and DNS applications.
  • Providing project planning support, planning strategy, working closely with the development project managers.
  • Helping the team co-ordinate EIAs and managing external EIA teams.
  • Engagement with project stakeholders including local planning authorities and communities.
  • Managing pre-construction planning activities, including discharge of condition applications and scheme variations.

Requirements

  • A relevant degree within the planning sector.
  • Full RTPI membership.
  • Experience delivering consent for renewable energy generation projects. (in a consultancy or developer setting) – minimum 5 years post chartership.
  • Excellent working knowledge of planning policy and practice.
  • A commitment to delivering high quality work.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adaptability, resilience and problem-solving abilities.
  • Well-developed project management and organisational capabilities.
  • A focus on teamwork and a strong ability to work collaboratively.
  • Clean, full UK driving license.
