Senior Planner - Development Management

£46,888 to £51,106 (Inclusive of Market Supplement)

Are you a Senior Planner looking for a new challenge? Or an experienced Planner looking to take the next step in your career? Then the Senior Planner role could be the perfect opportunity for you to lead on major residential and commercial planning applications across the District.

Braintree will continue to be an area of significant growth over the coming years. We are looking to embrace this challenge to deliver well-designed new homes, create jobs and improve and develop infrastructure for the benefit of existing and new communities.

About the Role

We are seeking to recruit two Senior Planners for our Development Management team. These are critical roles within the team. The successful candidates will be responsible for a diverse caseload of major development proposals, including Applications and Appeals, and the potential to also be involved in Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects (NSIPs), many of which will be subject to Planning Performance Agreements.

Career development is something we take seriously, and we enjoy nothing more than seeing our colleagues grow with us, with members of the team developing as they gain more experience and responsibilities. We are committed to building an exceptional Planning Team, utilising our colleagues’ talent, and making the most of what they have to offer.

With a strong and supportive management behind you, you’ll play a key part in helping us achieve our aims and assist in driving forward our vision to shape the District. It is essential that you have a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

What we’re looking for

Our ideal candidate would be someone with a strong track record of working within Development Management, who is commercially minded, with experience of complex major development proposals and the ability to manage Planning Performance Agreements (PPAs). A Degree in Town and Country Planning is required and Chartered Membership of the RTPI is desirable.

The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, excellent communication, report writing, and customer service skills, as well as the necessary motivation to deliver high performance and the ability to manage their own caseload and work to tight deadlines.
