Job description

We are seeking a passionate Occupational Therapist who shares in our vision of the 'home first' approach. You will have the opportunity to work in a large MDT to deliver a 2-hour response as part of the National Urgent Care Response targets. Our aim is to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions and prevent avoidable Emergency Department attendances by an integrated multidisciplinary approach stabilising patients within the place they call home.

The OBI team is a therapy service providing assessment and treatment to complex patients. The role will be predominantly crisis response work within a patient's own home, including falls response; however, there will be some opportunity for short-term rehab where required.

The successful candidate will be able to work autonomously and have post grad experience preferably with older adults and acute medicine/falls. You will have excellent communication skills, time management skills with the ability to prioritise and problem solve.

You will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills by having responsibility for the supervision of junior staff and students.

This is a 7-day service including bank holidays and weekends: 1 weekend every month on average. The shift patterns are 08:00 - 16:00 and 11:00 - 19:00 hrs, late shifts on average are 1 week every 3 weeks; this can change dependent on the service development/needs.

Main duties of the job

To provide rapid response, senior therapy assessment & treatment of complex patients within the community to prevent admission into hospital.

To be part of the falls rota in conjunction with Dudley Clinical Hub to provide falls response with lifting equipment.

OBI therapists have a generic therapy role in the initial assessment of patients but will utilise their specialist skills relevant to their own discipline where required.

Duties will include comprehensive assessment, using investigative, advanced analytical skills and clinical reasoning.

Using developed knowledge & experience to make a therapeutic diagnosis, interpret clinical findings and make a comprehensive therapy plan in order to treat.

To undertake OBI triage of referrals, demonstrating excellent clinical reasoning skills and decision making in order to prioritise caseload.

Participate in the ongoing service development of OBI.

Provide supervision and appraisals to therapy support workers and students.

Qualifications & Education
  • Diploma / degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Registered with HCPC
Knowledge and Training
  • Completed junior rotations in core areas or equivalent rehabilitation experience across a variety of clinical settings
  • Good knowledge of current best practice in rapid response, rehabilitation, falls, and clinical guidelines
  • Computer literate, knowledge of TEAMS, Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Good knowledge of National guidance for Urgent Community Response Services
  • Evidence of post grad training
Experience
  • Experience of working with physically impaired patients
  • Experience of working in the community
  • Experience at band 6 level
