Job description

An opportunity has arisen to be part of a great team providing a comprehensive Occupational Health service to all Trust staff. The role involves providing clinical leadership, management and guidance to less senior staff. To clinically deputise for the OH Clinical Service Lead in their absence.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist the Trust in promoting and maintaining the health of staff and lead on particular service development and health promotion activities.
  • Work closely with the senior management team to ensure that the service supports the aims of the Trust.
  • Support the delivery of Occupational Health Services to NHS client and commercial employers within the remit of the contract specified.
  • Advise all Trust staff in regard to their Health, Safety and welfare at work, and assist in promoting and maintaining their health and well-being, within their own area of knowledge and competence.
  • Ensure that all health issues are dealt with in a professional and competent manner.
  • Ensure compliance with the Trust's Risk Management Policies and Procedures.
  • Act as a clinical expert and positive role model for all staff.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support and assist the OH team to deliver the workload effectively.
  • Represent the department at Trust and other agency forums in place of the head of Occupational health.
  • Actively participate in and support Directorate initiatives and issues.
  • Support and develop junior members of staff through one-to-ones and appraisals.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance to nursing and non-nursing staff.
  • Lead in the development of clinical standards ensuring these are set, embedded and monitored.
  • Monitor agreed quality improvement metrics to support compliance with local and external practice standards.
  • Participate in audit and research programmes appropriate to the advancement of the service.
  • Ensure an effective learning environment for all staff.
  • Report, investigate and act upon complaints and Adverse Incidents.

Person Specification

Qualifications: Registered General Nurse.

Knowledge: Good knowledge of clinical governance, Quality Improvement tools and audit.

Experience: Significant post registration experience in a variety of primary and secondary care clinical settings; Minimum of 5 years post registration experience; Minimum of 2 years Occupational Health experience.

Skills: Sound clinical skills, ability to make autonomous decisions, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
