Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer

Job Overview:
We are looking for a Senior Modeling & Simulation Engineer with a strong background in Finite Element Analysis (FEA), specifically focused on polymers and polymer composites, to lead the structural, thermal, and dynamic analysis of commercial roofing systems. The ideal candidate will also have experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and a deep understanding of the behavior of polymers in various environmental and mechanical conditions. This role will involve advanced simulation and collaboration across teams to optimize roofing materials and drive innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools like ABAQUS, ANSYS, or COMSOL to design and optimize roofing materials such as membranes, adhesives, and related components.
  • Focus on polymers and polymer composites, developing and validating models to predict their performance under a variety of environmental and mechanical conditions.
  • Apply expertise in FEA to model nonlinear geometry and viscoelastic materials, ensuring the best performance of roofing systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, product development, and manufacturing, to integrate computational modeling insights into the product development lifecycle.
  • Use experimental design (DOE), statistical analysis, and data interpretation techniques to optimize material formulations and refine product designs.
  • Investigate and address complex engineering challenges, such as material behavior, structural integrity, and product performance.
  • Prepare technical reports, communicate findings, and provide actionable recommendations for product improvements and new innovations.
  • Stay current with the latest advancements in FEA, CFD, and computational modeling technologies to apply cutting-edge techniques and enhance the company's product capabilities.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of polymers and polymer composites and their behavior in structural applications, particularly in roofing systems.
  • 3-5 years of experience with advanced FEA techniques using ABAQUS, ANSYS, or COMSOL, with a focus on nonlinear geometry and viscoelasticity.
  • Hands-on experience with modeling and simulating polymers, polymer composites, and related materials.
  • CFD experience is highly desirable, providing additional insight into material behavior and system performance.
  • Expertise in statistical analysis and experimental design (DOE), applying these skills to drive innovation and optimize product designs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex engineering challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in the commercial roofing or construction materials industry is a plus.
  • Familiarity with material characterization and testing methods is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of thermoplastic and EPDM rubber materials and their applications in roofing systems is a plus.
