Position: Senior Metallurgist / Material Scientist

Location: United Kingdom

Permanent role

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Metallurgist / Materials Scientist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ferrous metallurgy, failure analysis, and root cause investigation, with particular expertise in high-temperature degradation mechanisms, including creep and corrosion. Experience within the power plant sector is highly desirable, though candidates from the oil & gas or petrochemical industries with relevant experience will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead and deliver metallurgical failure examinations, including laboratory work and formal reporting.
  2. Conduct site visits to carry out investigations and inspections.
  3. Mentor and develop less experienced failure investigators.
  4. Produce formal technical reports and other project deliverables on time and within budget.
  5. Prepare proposals and tender documents to develop new business.
  6. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
  7. Manage larger, project-based investigations.
  8. Stay up to date with relevant standards, legislation, and industry best practices.
  9. Periodic travel within the UK and abroad as required by projects.

Requirements:

  1. Minimum of a degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  2. At least 5 years of industrial failure analysis experience in the power industry (experience in petrochemical and oil & gas industries may be considered).
  3. Strong communication and report-writing skills.
