The Medicines Effectiveness Team are excited to announce a fantastic opportunity to join the newly established Best Value Medicines and Biologics Group. This innovative team, alongside the Medicines Effectiveness Team, will play a pivotal role in driving cost-saving initiatives across biologic medicines while ensuring that patients continue to receive the highest standards of care.


The Best Value Medicines and Biologics Group will focus on identifying, promoting, and implementing strategies to maximise cost-saving opportunities for both commissioners and the Trust. By evaluating and optimising biologic prescribing and usage, the team will ensure that value for money is achieved across the healthcare system, while maintaining clinical effectiveness and safety.


As a member of this dynamic team, you will work collaboratively with clinical and financial stakeholders, including prescribers, pharmacists, commissioners, and procurement teams, to identify areas where cost efficiencies can be made, particularly in the use of biosimilars and other biologic therapies. The post holder will be supporting clinical teams in all aspects relating to the mobilising of identified cost saving opportunities.


The successful candidate will provide Senior Pharmacy Technician support to all homecare services, with a special interest in areas relating to the Best Value Medicines and Biologics Group.


Main duties of the job


  1. To support and assist the Pharmacy Homecare Service Manager and Best Value Medicines and Biologics Group in cost-effective procurement and delivery of Homecare medicines and services for the OUH NHS Foundation Trust (OUH).
  2. Co-ordinate and communicate with clinical pharmacists and homecare providers to implement cost-saving initiatives.
  3. To promote the economic use of medicines whilst actively contributing to the activities of the pharmacy department to ensure high standards quality of pharmaceutical care for patients.
  4. Maintain a locally adapted database for resources to support clinical teams with switches.
  5. To be the liaison between clinical teams and homecare providers and support the transition of patients to best value and most cost-effective medicines.

Essential and Desirable


Essential


  • Qualified Pharmacy Technician (NVQ3) pharmaceutical sciences or other relevant qualification.
  • Registered with General Pharmaceutical Council as a registered technician.
  • Experience working in one or more aspects of medicines management in hospital.
  • Good all-round understanding of medicines management and the pharmacy service.
  • Ability to plan and direct own work, use initiative and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for using IT and developing new skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and rapport with colleagues.
  • Good time management skills and a demonstrable ability to plan and deliver a project to tight deadlines.
  • Experience of developing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Good IT skills, including database and Excel, equivalent to RSA Level 3.

Desirable


  • Experience of working in a pharmacy homecare setting.
  • Report writing experience.
  • Interest in formulary management.
  • Formal project management training.
  • An NVQ Assessor.
  • Accredited Checking Technician (ACT) Accreditation.
  • Good time management skills and a demonstrable ability to plan and deliver a project to tight deadlines IT skill qualification (ECDL).
