Job description

The Opportunity

Due to recent and forecasted project growth, our client is currently seeking an experienced Senior Designer to provide support and technical guidance for a team of multi-disciplined designers. You will be responsible for the quality of output to the client's required standards consistent with the whole lifecycle from concept to in-service support.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Designer, this role involves designing and developing solutions, resolving design issues and problems for a range of specialist design situations. You will provide specialist technical advice and guidance to other designers, ensuring design governance for technical standards within the team. This position works with a high degree of technical autonomy and typically incorporates Engineer status.

Contract Estimated Duration: 12 months
This role has been deemed: inside of IR35

Your Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Allocate discipline tasks to the team of designers, check team drawing outputs, and ensure inter-discipline coordination in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
  2. Promote effective cooperation across Design and other functional teams.
  3. Adhere to Health & Safety standards and be fully familiar with all authorized documentation, Good Practice Guides, and ISO standards.
  4. Assist in effective management of the customer, including liaison and relationship development with existing and new customers.
  5. Advise and assist in selecting the correct methods and tools for tasks and provide technical assistance to the team of designers.
  6. Contribute to the preparation/production of drawings in support of basic, detail, and production design in line with recognized ISO standards and to the required time, cost, and quality requirements.
  7. Provide a point of contact with professional engineering colleagues and various stakeholders for discipline-related issues during the design lifecycle.
  8. Assist in the resolution of Production & Technical Queries and development of discipline solutions for the team.
  9. Contribute to learning from experience (LfE) during and post-project.
  10. Develop innovative design solutions and fulfill Design Lead responsibilities for multi-discipline low-risk projects.
  11. Maintain individual knowledge of current best practices in the application of designer expertise across the design lifecycle.
  12. Support the business winning process through input into or review of tender requirements, including estimates.
  13. Support business development opportunities in raising the client's Nuclear profile through presentations, academic links, conferences, and technical papers.
You Will Have the Following Qualifications and Experience
  1. HNC/HND minimum in a relevant discipline OR equivalent academic qualification.
  2. Experience in a detailed design environment.
  3. Good knowledge of CAD tools including Autodesk Inventor.
  4. Knowledge of General Engineering Drawing Practice.
  5. Incorporated Engineer status.
  6. Demonstrable experience in technical leading of a multi-disciplined design team.
  7. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interface with other disciplines.
