Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities

1. Lead building services design projects within a multidisciplinary team.
2. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
3. Collaborate with other disciplines to deliver complete scheme designs.
4. Proficient in undertaking design work through all RIBA Stages including feasibility report, concept designs, spatial coordination, detailed design, construction monitoring, and handover.
5. Ensure compliance with UK building regulations, codes, and standards.
6. Stay up to date with advancements in building services technology and industry trends, applying knowledge to drive continuous improvement in design methodologies and processes.

Experience and Skills Required

1. Accredited Building Services degree and significant experience in a similar role.
2. Chartered or a desire to become Chartered.
3. Ability to work using your own initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects of the role.
4. Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complicated issues to clients and stakeholders.
5. Ambition and willingness to learn.
6. Strong working knowledge of British Standards, codes of practice, and relevant design guidance and standards.
7. Experience of software such as AutoCAD, Revit, IES VE, and Bluebeam.
8. Knowledge of Mechanical systems design: heating, cooling, ventilation, domestic water, above ground drainage, BMS controls, and renewable energy.
9. Mechanical design calculations including thermal modelling, heat loss, heat gain, pipe sizing, duct sizing.
