We have several exciting on-going projects with clients across both commercial & naval marine domains and are seeking to expand our existing Marine Engineering capability.
As a Senior Marine Engineer every day at Expleo will be out of the ordinary and will require you to be dynamic and responsive to changes in technology, innovation, and client requirements. You will have the opportunity to get involved in pre-concept and concept sub-surface vessel design, complex engineering design & analysis tasks, the creation of new & innovative tools & processes, the delivery of engineering consultancy services, and the development of new business opportunities across a wide range of UK maritime programmes.
Initial opportunity identified working as a consultant within a pre-concept design group, supporting the development of future submarine design. This role shall require the candidate to work on-site with our client for a minimum of 4 days per week for a duration of approximately 12 months.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a hybrid arrangement, providing more options to balance their work and personal life whilst ensuring business needs are achieved upon completion of this initial requirement. Your primary place of work will be Bristol and occasional travel to client sites will be required, dependent upon project.
Responsibilities
- Apply & continue to develop a breadth of engineering skills, in the discipline of Marine Engineering and where applicable, covering disciplines such as mechanical, structural, and electrical systems.
- Contribute to the development of new business opportunities and generate technical scopes, risk registers and work breakdown structures.
- Define & conduct engineering analyses, technical studies and research & development projects, making use of your knowledge and experience, to deliver high quality solutions to our customers and clients.
- Provide mentoring support, guidance & leadership to aid with the development of our Marine Engineers to grow their technical & behavioural skills, knowledge & experience.
- Investigating and solve complex technical problems in concept, basic and detailed designs.
- Develop and maintain written technical and administrative procedures, standards, processes, practices, guidelines, and standards.
- Interface directly with our customers and clients, representing our teams to discuss and deliver engineering solutions to complex problems.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in a relevant STEM discipline (e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Marine Technology, Naval Engineering), or equivalent experience in the naval and commercial ship design, construction, or maintenance domain.
- Professional member of a relevant engineering institution (e.g., RINA, IMarEST, IMechE, IET).

- Submarine Systems (Hydraulics, Air Systems, Atmosphere Control)
- Control Systems (Platform Management System, Active Vehicle Control)
- Wholeboat System Design and Integration
- Space, Weight and Power Estimations
- Pre-concept and Concept Design Development (Ship Systems)
- Vessel and System Concept Design
- Experience of using various engineering software packages (e.g., Siemens NX, Rhino, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Ansys Structural/Fluent, Python, MS Excel).
- A readiness to grow & develop your technical & behavioural competence to operate at the cutting edge of your discipline.

- A proven track record of delivering reliability, productivity & quality in a technical consultancy environment.

Desired skills
- A clear understanding of the role of a Marine Engineer throughout all stages of the design lifecycle (CADMID).
- An understanding of classification society rules, regulations and standards in the design, construction and in-service lifecycle phases.
- Experience of whole ship design including assessment of performance, design integration, construction, and through-life maintenance.
- Experience of working in multi-company and engineering discipline teams with an ability to communicate effectively.
- Experience in a technical consulting environment, leading and/or supporting multiple engineering projects & customers.
Experience
- The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience (8 years for non-degree qualified) working in the naval maritime domain, ideally submarines.
