The Senior Manager, Tax Transformation & Automation (“Sr. Project Manager”) manages project scope, tasks, project teams, timelines, budgets, and resource allocation, and prepares and reviews deliverables in connection with client service. The Sr. Project Manager oversees the functional and technical direction of projects including on-time and on-budget delivery of tax transformation & automation project tasks such as detail requirements analysis, process design and configuration, defining deliverables, working with senior stakeholders across each client’s business, and being able to pivot between tax/accounting technical, IT technical and change management capabilities. The Sr. Project Manager also maintains and supports existing partnerships, and client relationships, and provides technical leadership and guidance to their team and clients on project status and adherence to timeline and budget. It is expected that some projects, cross-tax/finance and across a variety of clients in different industries and locations, would need to be managed concurrently, and hands-on experience is essential. The Sr. Project Manager also assists with business development activities by preparing proposals, engagement agreements, and participating in calls and onsite meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
People:
- Provides supervision, coaching, mentorship, and training to staff as required.
- Provides project management technical support and guidance to the delivery team as they work on various transformation and automation-related projects.
- Creates and executes project work plans and enforces proper methodology and standards.
Client:
- Serves as a key advisor to clients on tax transformation initiatives, helping them navigate regulations.
- Provides project leadership to client service teams and clients.
- Can interact and ‘translate’ between a variety of stakeholders, typically including tax, finance/accounting, IT, C-suite, and transformation/change teams.
- Evidence of hands-on experience working in projects across all areas of tax (and ideally into finance, treasury, and other complementary teams).
- Ideally evidence of cross-industry consulting experience and the ability to bring alternative models/ideas to our clients as part of our hands-on partnership.
- Creates processes to track adherence to project timelines and budgets, enabling Ryan to notify clients if any material variances are identified or predicted.
- Reviews and leads the development of client deliverable documentation, including creating, composing, and editing written materials.
- Assists with client billing and financial forecasting.
- Responds to client inquiries.
- Develops client work plans and schedules associated with project deliverables.
- Reviews documentation and work delivered by the project team, including (depending on the project), functional requirements, technical design documents, bespoke automated processes, dashboards, process and control documentation, operating model and risk management frameworks, and configurations for 3rd party software.
- Develops templates and format specifications for project deliverables for client review and approval.
- Manages day-to-day operational aspects of projects, of varying sizes, areas of focus, and for clients in various industries and stages in their life cycles.
- Defines project success criteria and creates the metrics to enable them to be measured.
- Creates, maintains, and executes communication plans and communication protocols.
- Creates, maintains, and executes project escalation and remediation policies.
- Assists the team Principal with Tax Transformation & Automation business development activities (e.g. preparation of proposals, engagement agreements, attending prospect calls and meetings).
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- A bachelor’s degree or master’s degree from a four-year college or university and a minimum of 7 years of experience providing tax transformation & automation services is required. Accounting and/or Tax qualifications are highly desirable.
Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Visio, MS Project, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research. Strong working knowledge, ideally hands-on experience, of key technologies in transformations, including ERP/accounting systems, ‘off the shelf’ tax software, automation and data processing solutions (e.g., RPA, Alteryx, MS Power apps, etc.), databases/warehouses, and other related technologies, is highly desired.
