Description:

About the Role

The National Energy System Operator (NESO) is an independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system. As the UK moves towards its 2050 net zero target, NESO has a vital part to play. We want to operate a zero-carbon electricity system some of the time by 2025 and run on clean green electricity all of the time by 2030. It’s an ambitious goal and we can't get there without trusted and accessible data to drive the right outcomes, allowing our business and the industry the means to innovate and exploit this data to create new tools and insights that will enable decarbonisation.

We are seeking a highly skilled, passionate, and experienced Senior Manager of Data Partnering to lead a team of data professionals responsible for implementing data standards and capabilities in partnership with internal stakeholders across the directorates, ensuring their energy-related data challenges are addressed and needs met. The role holder will also engage with key industry bodies to support market initiatives that will provide the right data to our external customers and drive the ambition of consistent data practices across the energy industry.

This role is based in Warwick or Wokingham. We offer hybrid flexible working between the office and home. Candidates must be willing to travel between our office locations in Great Britain.

If this role excites you and you don’t have all the knowledge or skillsets, we encourage you to apply, as additional support and/or training will be considered for the right applicant.

Key Accountabilities
  • Lead a high performing team of data leads and data stewards to ensure full and active ownership of data workstream components of NESO project initiatives, developing and delivering the data requirements in line with data policies and standards.
  • Deliver hands-on support and partnership to business data owners to comply with data standards for data in their domains (data management, governance, cataloguing, monitoring, sharing, and improving the quality of their data).
  • Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with stakeholders within Digital, Data & Technology as well as broader partnerships throughout NESO.
  • Work with industry participants and directorates to understand strategic priorities, developing data strategies aligned to their goals.
  • Develop a data services portal for stakeholders to access key information and assets related to data capabilities and offerings.
  • Drive a Data Culture and Literacy programme to enhance the understanding of data concepts across NESO.
  • Provide data training capabilities for all NESO stakeholders, where deemed necessary to perform their data-related responsibilities.
  • Deliver data-driven insights to the NESO Leadership Team to identify risks and efficiency opportunities.
  • Ensure all risk and issues associated with data-related activities are managed appropriately.
  • Act as Subject Matter Expert with respect to data capabilities to support engagement across business initiatives.
About You

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Demonstrated success in leadership roles, with a strong strategic mindset and a proven track record of influencing outcomes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Data Strategy, Data Management, Data Governance, and Data Analytics principles.
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing new data management capabilities.
  • Experience in delivering large scale data programme initiatives and implementation of data capabilities.
  • Experience working in the energy sector and a strong understanding of required datasets.
  • Proven experience of leading a team of high-performing individuals.
  • Proven ability to build and sustain high-impact relationships with senior stakeholders.
  • Strong written, verbal and visual communication skills.
  • Experience developing engagement plans for the adoption of new and enhanced services.
  • Experience developing and implementing learning and training plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent data management certification.
  • BA/BSc degree in a data or technical related field, or equivalent work experience in Data Management.
