Job description

Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full-time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £30,285 per annum / £16.64 per hour).

The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.

Job purpose/about the role

The Senior Library Assistant will lead and manage a team to deliver high quality, customer-focused library and learning services across Aberdeen.

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
  • 4 National 5 passes at Grade A-C or equivalent, to include English and a Mathematics subject or equivalent
  • PVG Membership for Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults or willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
  • Assisting and supporting service users
  • Carrying out physical nature of duties; movement of books and other resources between and onto shelves
  • Monitoring and evaluation of service or project delivery
  • Organisation and administration of service or project delivery
  • Presentation, promotion skills and delivery of outreach activities to a range of clients
  • Time management and ability to prioritise
  • Training and supporting groups or individuals
  • Use of new technologies
  • Working independently
  • Working collaboratively with a range of partners
