Job description

This position will be sole in-house Legal Counsel for Chipotle’s European business and will also provide legal support for Chipotle’s international expansion initiatives. This position will report to a U.S.-based Deputy General Counsel and will be responsible for providing legal advice, guidance, direction and partnership across a wide variety of legal matters. We are seeking a highly motivated attorney with strong commercial acumen and business judgement and excellent communication skills.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  1. Draft, review and/or negotiate a wide variety of commercial agreements across the UK and Europe (working with local counsel as appropriate), including supply chain, distribution, employment, marketing and technology agreements.
  2. Develop standard form agreements and develop and enhance legal processes to generate operational efficiency and mitigate risk.
  3. Provide corporate, commercial and regulatory legal support to cross-functional stakeholders on a variety of legal matters, including marketing, intellectual property, data privacy, employment, food safety, real estate, treasury, corporate structure and other commercial legal matters.
  4. Collaborate with internal legal and business teams to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations and industry standards and to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of appropriate policies and procedures.
  5. Collaborate with internal legal and business teams to evaluate, negotiate and monitor third-party partnerships, including licenses and joint venture agreements, in new geographic regions.
  6. Retain and manage external U.K. and European legal counsel to ensure the provision of effective and efficient legal services.
  7. Develop, implement and support ongoing training and educational resources to promote legal awareness and compliance across the company.
  8. Oversee litigation management, ensuring effective legal strategies, root cause analysis and risk mitigation.
  9. Monitor legal and regulatory changes and trends, analyze the potential impact of changes and trends the company and educate internal stakeholders.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE TABLE

  1. 8-10 years of Post Qualification Experience, with ideally both law firm and in-house experience.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate legal issues in a business-friendly way and influence key stakeholders.
  3. A motivated self-starter, comfortable taking the initiative and leading on issues, and the ambition to develop an in-house career within a general counsel function.
  4. Excellent communication, problem-solving skills and analytical skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.
  6. Ability to work with cross-functional partners.
