We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our team in our Edinburgh or London offices. This role will complement a team of in-house lawyers who provide strategic legal advice, guidance, and support across the Royal London Group.

As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will be responsible for providing expert legal advice supporting our business and its provision of a range of pensions, protection and savings products, with an emphasis on regulatory matters. You will ensure we are compliant with applicable law and regulation, managing legal risks, and supporting business operations with sound legal strategies.

About the role

• Provide expert legal advice and support regarding our products and associated regulatory matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of legal documents.
• Develop legal strategies and provide guidance on regulatory compliance and risk management.
• Manage and mitigate legal risks, identify potential issues, and provide proactive solutions.
• Collaborate with external legal advisors, as necessary, and in a cost-effective manner.
• Participate in strategic decision-making processes, provide legal advice on business initiatives, and help drive overall business goals.

About you

• A qualified Solicitor from a Common Law jurisdiction who holds a current practising certificate.
• Strong knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations and be able to interpret complex legal issues and provide practical solutions.
• A track record in providing expert legal advice regarding financial services products and associated regulatory matters.
• Practical experience covering a wide range of legal matters with a strong understanding of commercial and legal issues associated with the provision of pensions, protection and savings products, with considerable experience advising on associated regulatory matters.
• Experience of advising on the operation with-profits funds is desirable.
• Solid awareness of the principles of corporate governance.
• Expert knowledge of relevant FCA/PRA regulation and its impact on the Royal London Group.
• Ability to collaborate with stakeholders and a proven track record working in a fast-moving environment.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
