Team / division overview
The DWS legal team based in London is looking to recruit a senior lawyer (6 years + PQE). The primary focus of the role is to support the DWS Alternatives business (in particular, the DWS Private Equity, Real Estate, Infrastructure and Private Credit platforms). While the role will support the DWS Alternatives business generally, particular experience in launching and raising private credit, capital solutions, special situations and/or structured finance debt offerings such as CLOs is beneficial to the role.
The London legal team is a friendly, collegiate and dynamic team. We are looking for a team player who enjoys working with lawyers and non-lawyers alike. An ability to build relationships with business colleagues and quickly win their confidence is of paramount importance. The position also offers the opportunity to work with DWS legal colleagues in multiple jurisdictions, including the US, Germany and Luxembourg.

Role Details:
As a Senior Legal Counsel you will (be):
  • Managing DWS legal risk and protecting the integrity and reputation of DWS;
  • Partnering with Risk, Compliance, Audit and others to provide a proactive integrated risk management approach;
  • Providing legal support for the Alternatives business including:
  • Providing legal support on the establishment and on-going maintenance of alternatives funds;
  • Instructing, managing and liaising with external counsel;
  • Reviewing and negotiating a wide variety of funds documents (in conjunction with fund counsel) as well as agreements required for segregated account and advisory mandates;
  • Advising the broader coverage (sales) team on the marketing of fund products and services, as well as reviewing, drafting and negotiating distribution agreements;
  • Where required, reviewing, drafting and negotiating pre-transactional documentation including engagement letters, non-disclosure agreements, letters of intent and similar type agreements;
  • Providing legal support on regulatory/ strategic initiatives;
  • Troubleshooting, including dealing with disputes and other legal and commercial issues;
  • Advising the business in relation to regulatory change which may impact the business or the funds on the DWS Alternatives platform and assisting in the implementation of the same; and
  • Supporting initiatives within the Alternatives and wider DWS business.
We are looking for:
  • Experience of working in a dynamic international environment and have an ability to relate to different business perspectives and approaches to arising issues;
  • Solid knowledge of alternatives funds (including private credit), either gained in-house or in private practice;
  • Good organisational and project management skills;
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple priorities;
  • An awareness of regulatory change in the funds space;
  • A practical approach to problem solving;
  • An understanding of how to manage external counsel, including agreeing fee estimates and scope of assignments;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Good commercial sense.
