An established industry player is seeking a dynamic legal counsel to join their UK & Ireland legal team in London. Job description

Join an excellent team of 4 in the UK & Ireland legal team based in London and get involved in broad and interesting legal matters within a rapidly growing and dynamic business within the Telecommunications, connectivity and infrastructure space.

This role could suit either a legal counsel or senior legal counsel level candidate as there should be flexibility in job title to reflect level of PQE.

This is a 12 month FTC with potential of extensions up to 18 months. This is a great opportunity to become fully embedded into a highly collegiate telecommunications business in a varied corporate/ commercial role.

This role would suit:

  • someone who has a strong commercial background
  • someone who can adapt quickly and work in smaller legal teams and a business where process implementation and improvement is a high priority
  • someone who might have had public procurement experience within telecommunications, transportation, energy or infrastructure sectors could adapt very well. People without this experience will also be closely considered and suitable so long as experience is broad and commercially focused.
  • Someone experienced enough to work and adapt to varying workloads and switch between commercial, corporate, dispute management and DP matters.
  • An in-house lawyer who has worked in dynamic and fast paced environments
  • A team player and someone who can build strong relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • A qualified lawyer with at least 3/4 years PQE

Position Purpose

To ensure the protection of The Group’s UK&I’s commercial relationships with customers, suppliers and business partners; responsible for giving practical and focused advice on a wide variety of commercial legal matters, supporting the growing business and helping them to build and scale.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Providing advice on a wide range of legal matters affecting the operations including in relation to telecommunications, public procurement, property, employment, data protection, disputes, and other general corporate and commercial law matters.
  • Working closely with the General Counsel and outside counsel to coordinate a wide range of commercial contract negotiations including advice, negotiation, review and drafting of:
    • large, complex, and high value contracts with government and telecommunications companies
    • contracts for construction works, equipment supply and installation, maintenance and support, and professional services.
    • leases and licences connected with the implementation and operation of telecommunications networks and office operations.
  • Supporting the business development team in pursuing new opportunities to grow business
  • Assisting the General Counsel in relation to corporate governance and compliance activities and periodically in larger corporate matters
  • Working closely with colleagues in business development, operations, finance, people, marketing and HSE, as well as legal team colleagues in other regions
  • Providing general ad-hoc commercial legal support across the breadth of the business, including assisting with NDAs and undertaking legal research
  • Supporting the General Counsel in the provision of regular training and legal updates to the wider business

Salary: DOE

Start date: ASAP (Likely May 2025)

Working arrangements: 3 days a week in Paddington office
