Role:Senior Legal Counsel

Client: Top tier re/insurer

Contract:Permanent

Salary: £130,000- £157,000 per annum

Office: London, hybrid working

Key Requirement: Proven Lloyd’s market experience

We have partnered with a top tier re/ insurer, as they are seeking to hire an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join their firm. As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will play a pivotal role in advising a specific group within the firm on a variety of legal matters. This includes strategic projects, distribution contracts, underwriting, wordings, reinsurance, service contracts, as well as regulatory and compliance support. Your expertise will be critical in guiding the business through complex legal landscapes and ensuring adherence to group-wide policies and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

(Re)Insurance Law Expertise:

  • Advise on and coordinate the provision of advice on (re)insurance law issues, including wordings, delegation, and distribution contracts.

Commercial and Corporate Contracts:

  • Provide expertise on commercial and corporate contract issues, focusing on optimising approaches to intra-group agreements and third-party service contracts.

Regulatory and Compliance Support:

  • Collaborate with the Compliance team on regulatory and sanctions matters to ensure compliance across all operations.

Group Guidelines Implementation:

  • Work with the corporate underwriting team and other lawyers firm wide to ensure all relevant group guidelines are understood and implemented across this group.
  • Maintain wordings and processes in line with group-wide policies.

Process Improvement Strategy:

  • Develop strategies to enhance processes aimed at achieving consistency and streamlining the provision of legal advice.

Training and Knowledge Sharing:

  • Provide training, develop template contracts, and share relevant knowledge across the business to ensure legal best practices are followed.

Legal Risk Management:

  • Identify significant legal exposures, provide legal updates to the business, and manage external counsel instructions where appropriate.

Conduct and Customer Outcomes:

  • Promote good conduct within the business to ensure the best outcomes for customers and policyholders.

Knowledge and Skills:

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Lawyer with significant post-qualification experience (PQE) in private practice (insurance) and in-house roles.

Specialisation:

  • Strong background and specialisation in insurance law with a deep understanding of the insurance industry.
  • Proven Lloyd’s market and regulatory experience.

Legislative and Regulatory Knowledge:

  • Comprehensive understanding of the legislative, regulatory, and competitive environment, including consumer products.

Leadership Skills:

  • Good motivational and management skills to lead and inspire teams.
