We are hiring for a Senior Investment Executive based in Newcastle.
The Senior Investment Executive is responsible for:
Contribute to the operation of funds under management as a senior member of the Investment Team.
Helping the Fund Manager manage and motivate employees within the team and providing investment training where appropriate. Helping provide proactive leadership and dynamic team development to ensure team members reach their potential and that performance is maximised.
Contributing to driving the overall performance of the funds under management, monitoring team and individual performances to achieve defined goals and fund outputs in line with the relevant Fund Business Plans.
Evaluate and assess potential new investment propositions, providing guidance and advice in areas of viability and eligibility to Investment Executives, where appropriate.
Where appropriate, oversee due diligence, terms and conditions and legal documentation for placing investments.
Ensure compliance with Investment Operating Guidelines and appropriate regulations at all times.
Through sustained and extensive business development activity, source and appraise suitable investment opportunities.
Develop and maintain links and networks with key business introducers and intermediaries to source suitable investment opportunities.
Maintain and develop technical and industry specific knowledge to ensure best practice and compliance in investment activity.
Assess applications for funding and prepare credit reports recommending investment to Fund Manager, Fund Director or Investment Committee.
Take responsibility for the completion of deals as deemed appropriate, ensuring that customer service standards are achieved whilst acting commercially supporting the customer through difficult situations, ensuring timely feedback to appropriate parties and signing off all Conditions Precedent having been met.
Conduct thorough and robust management, financial and commercial due diligence when considering investment opportunities and assess the risks of each investment.
Negotiate terms and conditions relating to legal documentation for the making of investments. Contribute to the Investment Team’s targets, playing a key role in delivering timely and excellent customer service.
Understand and assess underlying cashflow assumptions and comment on the risks associated with these and suggest and conduct appropriate sensitivity analysis.
Take responsibility for the creation of covenants and the setting of limits. Liaise closely with portfolio teams as appropriate.
Liaise closely with the portfolio team post-investment and support as required to maintain the relationship with the investee company.
Disseminate examples of best practice for applying to the funds under management to key business introducers and ensure that the application process is continually refined and improved to provide the best possible client service.
Participate and represent the funds under management at internal/external meetings, undertaking presentations and actively promoting as required.
Contribute to the collation of data and briefing materials for stakeholders (Public and Private), and Board Committees and Investment Committee.
Promote best practice for environmental and diversity issues within the funds under management.
Contribute to marketing/promoting of the fund/organisation.
Responsible for the capture and reporting of KPI’s (jobs, leverage etc) for any funds under management.
Develop and nurture relationships with Local Authorities and Combined Authorities in the area.
Represent the funds under management at presentations and round-table events.
Achieve defined goals and fund output requirements in line with our contractual responsibilities to our funders.
Contribute to the operation of the organisation as a professional fund management business.
Any other task as may be defined by the Fund Director or Fund Manager to meet the operational needs of the department, ensuring that at all times, the trust and confidence of the organisation’s investors is retained.
Strong leadership and motivational skills, demonstrable experience in building and inspiring teams to achieve corporate goals.
Self-starter, able to take initiative and motivate others.
Credible, able to negotiate with confidence and represent the organisation in the local business community.
An awareness of business issues and the SME market in the region.
Previous venture capital, leveraged finance, corporate finance or accountancy experience within the SME market.
Understanding of debt and mezzanine investments into SMEs.
Credit appraisal experience and understanding of investment risk appraisal and investment processes and procedures.
Understanding of risk assessment.
Experience of analysing financial information.
Ability to assess investment proposals and construct balanced investment proposals.
Self-motivated and results-focused with the ability to take a proactive approach and work efficiently and independently, or as part of a team.
Comfortable in dealing with time-critical client sensitive work.
Strong team player.
Strong communication, influencing and interpersonal skills at team level.
Confident in own decision making. Prepared to have potentially difficult conversations with clients.
The ability to prioritise and organise work under pressure and meet targets. Drive and determination to complete work to a consistently high standard.
Minimum 5 years direct investment experience.
Accountancy or Banking Qualification.
Knowledge and understanding of the role of the public sector in SME finance.
Understanding of the regional business environment.
Presentation Skills.
