At FCDO Services, we protect the UK’s interests at home and overseas. We design and construct secure government buildings, undertake security systems installations, courier diplomatic packages worldwide, safeguard government tech, and a whole lot more. Our work is varied and crucial in keeping the UK government, its people and information safe. We never lose sight of our people and the importance of the skills that each of our people have. We align your interests, aspirations and development with the business needs to support our current mission.

Job description

Our Security Systems Engineers design, install and maintain technical systems around the world. We design, install, and maintain intruder detection systems, access control systems, public address systems and video surveillance systems among other security system installations.

As an inspirational, motivating and driven senior team leader, we are looking for somebody who embraces a challenge. The challenges of working on complex technical security systems, coupled with deployments around the world, in different environments, climates and cultures. If you’re ready to apply your skills and expertise to projects both here in the UK and overseas and be part of our global mission, we want you to be a part of it.

Lead, coach, inspire

In this role, you’ll be responsible for leading, coaching and task managing teams of up to 10 professional security technicians, ensuring their work is undertaken to approved designs and in accordance with our exacting standards and customer policies. You will be looked upon to provide expert input using your knowledge gathered on design input, project surveys and installation practices. You will take ownership of directing teams in the UK to help preparations for deploying projects overseas.

To ensure, as an organisation we meet our customers’ needs, you’ll assist with pre and post installation duties including the selection of materials, completing health and safety documentation in line with the organisation’s responsibilities, develop as-built documentation, and produce post-work reports. We offer our customers a flexible approach to our work and occasionally ask for support on project surveys, conducting or feeding into research and development ideas, logistical events and the creation of designs.

You’ll also be expected to use your expertise to advise on maintenance tasks, and investigate, diagnose and resolve any problems that arise. We’ll also expect you to maintain your own professional development and knowledge of the latest technologies as you help to support and grow our business.

Use all your skills and experience as you support our global mission

With extensive technical protective security system installation and commissioning skills, and a Level 3 qualification or its equivalent in a relevant discipline, you’ll have an SMSTS Health & Safety qualification, be a member of a relevant professional body, for example IET, and hold an up-to-date ECS card.

It’s important that you possess proven site surveying skills and expertise in at least one of the following skill sets – CCTV, IDS, IAPA, ACS or Radio and a fundamental understanding of premises cabling – as well as the ability to write and interpret technical documents. You’ll possess excellent cable and containment installation skills, and in addition to experience of applying relevant trade skills, you’ll have well-developed knowledge of construction design management requirements and good financial awareness. In addition, experience of working with other construction and M&E trades would be beneficial, as would completion of a recognised management or team-leading course.

Discover the support you need to grow your career further

We’re always looking to improve – just like you. That’s why when you join us, expect to receive a competitive salary, generous holiday entitlement and a Civil Service Pension. Along with this, you’ll also have access to training and other development opportunities to help grow your career with us. Our offices have an on-site gym, nursery, café, and restaurant, and we offer interest-free loans on season tickets and bikes to help you get there. It's a great set of benefits made to support all you do, and all you need.

If you’re successful in your application, we’ll ask you to undergo our vetting process to achieve Developed Vetting (DV) clearance. You can find out more about vetting at fcdoservicescareers.co.uk/how-to-apply/.
