We are looking for enthusiastic, talented Senior Human Factors specialists who are experienced in integrating and applying Human Factors methods in a safety-critical environment, advising and supporting the design and safety assessment process. We are looking for people who have a track record of successful technical leadership and delivery of projects, who can work as part of a team to deliver safety-based solutions and have the confidence to promote Human Factors best practice. UKNNL is at the forefront of nuclear research and development in the UK and beyond with a wide range of projects that require creative Human Factors support, and we are looking for individuals who want to join our team and make a difference to these projects. There will also be an opportunity to apply and shape Human Factors practice in the nuclear industry and contribute to research in this area.

The team you will join is a dedicated, hard-working group who are passionate about the work they do. We support working flexibly, can accommodate homeworking, and can be flexible about location, although some travel will be necessary to support business needs.

The location for the role is flexible and can be based at Sellafield, Workington, Preston, or Risley.

Main Responsibilities for Senior Human Factors Assessor:

• You can apply Human Factors methods in a wide variety of circumstances because you are up to date with developments in methodology and approach.
• You can lead the technical delivery of projects to meet customer requirements.
• You are experienced in providing support to multi-disciplinary teams addressing safety challenges.
• You are experienced in the support and development of junior colleagues.
• You can manage and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• You can provide support to bids for new work.
• You will use your creativity and initiative to develop new capabilities for the Human Factors team, through innovative approaches that include being the technical lead on complex R&D projects and submissions.
• You will be interested in developing the Human Factors team through mentoring and supervision.
• You can design and deliver specialist Human Factors training within the team and across UKNNL.

Essential Criteria for Senior Human Factors Assessor:

• Extensive experience in integrating and applying Human Factors methods, preferably in a safety-critical environment.
• Degree qualified or equivalent level of demonstrable technical capability.
• Excellent level of knowledge in the field of Human Factors.
• Proven ability to act independently, under own initiative, while supervising other members of the team.
• Strong communication skills, including remote working.
• Excellent teamworking skills, with the ability to inspire the work of a team.
• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Senior Human Factors Assessor:

• Experienced in mentoring and developing technical skills.
• Preferably Chartered Membership of a professional institution.
• Excellent networking skills, maintaining a network across the Human Factors field nationally.
• You might have membership of relevant national industry group(s).
