Job description

Senior HR Officer (10 month fixed-term maternity cover contract)

Our client, an education provider in Oxfordshire, is seeking a new member of their HR team to work collaboratively across their Trust of schools. This role is a maternity cover contract expected to commence on 3 March 2025 and continue until 29 November 2025. The role will involve on-site school working across Oxfordshire - generally 2 days a week at 2 secondary schools and one day a week at a primary school, depending on the HR needs of the schools. There is car parking available at each school, and you must be able to be onsite. Occasional home working may be considered during school holidays. They may consider part-time working - 3 or 4 days a week, and term-time only for full-time hours.

Senior HR Officer Responsibilities

This Senior HR Officer role will be busy and varied and will include but not be limited to:

  1. Supervising 2 HR Assistants and providing comprehensive employee relations and sickness absence support
  2. Reviewing and updating policies and procedures and driving values and culture
  3. Supporting School Leaders with the coordination of end-to-end recruitment, selection, and interview processes
  4. Overseeing onboarding of new staff, ensuring necessary checks and paperwork are completed in an accurate and timely manner
  5. Coordinating and checking payroll with the finance team and providing guidance on pension and payroll matters
  6. Working with School Leadership on performance development and CPD provision

Senior HR Officer Experience

To be successful in this Senior HR Officer role, you will be an experienced schools-based HR professional looking for a new, challenging, and rewarding role, which is critical to ensuring that the schools flourish. You will work closely with school leaders to help them retain and attract fantastic staff to deliver a great education for their students. You will have the opportunity to assist with developing the people practices as a Trust, so that they can stand out as an employer of choice in Oxfordshire. You will have previous supervisory experience, preferably be CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent), or have solid hands-on UK-based HR work experience in a generalist HR capacity. A solid understanding of working in a school HR team is highly desirable, as you will be experienced in managing and supporting ER cases, overseeing payroll to ensure data accuracy, managing sickness and performance, and supporting HR Assistants on recruitment during peak times.

Location

This is a full-time role with mostly office-based working, though there may be some home-working available during non-term-time. This role is based between various schools in Oxfordshire, and it is desirable that you have a full clean UK driver's license to travel to each of the schools. There is car parking available at the school sites.

You must have the full right to work in the UK as sponsorship is not available for this position. You must be able to commit to the length of this contract and start by mid-Feb, so applicants with long notice periods cannot be considered.

Closing Date

3rd February 2025.
