Senior Health, Safety & Environmental Officer

Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health & Safety Officer to join our team to ensure that the business meets all health, safety and compliance requirements across a number of contract sites throughout the country.

About the Role - Key responsibilities include:

1. Carrying out construction site specific risk assessments and generate site specific method statements (RAMS) in accordance with our policies and procedures.
2. Carrying out construction site inspections/audits in accordance with Omega PLC’s construction sites inspection rota, policies and procedures.
3. Work closely and collaboratively with Site Management to ensure the safe delivery and installation of our product onto/into site.
4. Ensure all working practices undertaken by Omega PLC construction employees and third-party contractors are safe and comply with current legislation.
5. Providing HSE advice together with appropriate and accurate documentation.
6. The provision, or arranging of training for Omega PLC construction employees or sub-contractors as required.
7. Produce and distribute toolbox talks or safety notifications as required to Omega PLC construction managers, ensuring a timely submission on a monthly basis to relevant managers.
8. Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all Health and Safety legislation together with any developments that affect the Construction Industry.
9. Producing management reports - including weekly and daily updates as required.
10. Advising on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, working at height and occupational diseases.
11. Manage, maintain or produce policies and procedures relating to health, safety and environment for Omega PLC’s construction department.
12. Manage Omega PLC’s contractor and employee training and competency database to ensure the system is up to date at all times.
13. Manage and maintain Omega PLC’s construction certifications and memberships and ensure membership is maintained.
14. Assisting/advise on the completion of Contract tender queries/documentation (H&S and environment issues).
15. Investigating accidents on site relating to the business and our sub-contract personnel.
16. Act as the primary contact for construction related HSE issues in relation to all clients or clients’ representatives.

Qualifications - Applicants for the role must possess the following:

1. Have obtained or working towards NEBOSH diploma or equivalent.
2. Must hold NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent.
3. Proven experience in a similar construction H&S role.
4. CSCS card holder - either Manager or relevant construction qualification card.
5. Proven ability and experience of writing RAMS for construction works.
6. Wide and current knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
7. Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
8. Ability to develop working relationships with a wide range of people.
9. Good presentation skills.
10. Strong influencing skills – able to convince managers of the need to implement and maintain safety standards that may compromise speed or efficiency.
11. The ability to understand and analyse complex information and present it simply and accurately.
12. PC literate – Excel, Word, and PowerPoint to an intermediate standard.
13. Attention to detail.
14. A flexible approach to work.
15. Good organisational and planning skills.
16. The ability to manage a varied and geographically spread workload.
17. Full clean driving licence.
