Job Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hard working Senior Health Care Assistant to join our Team in providing care for elective Orthopaedic Patients on Ward 1 at Wrightington Hospital.

We are an Admission and Day Case Unit caring for elective Orthopaedic patients undergoing Upper Limb Surgery. We work Monday - Friday with no weekend Bank Holiday or night duty shifts.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Health Care Assistant will be responsible for providing a range of personal care for patients and a range of clinical duties under the guidance of a registered healthcare professional.

  • Assisting with the Admission and Discharge of Patients
  • Assist the Registered Nurse in providing post-operative care
  • Assisting patients with diet and fluids

Job Description

Job responsibilities

  • Under the supervision, and working in partnership with a registered nurse, provide and deliver a high standard of nursing care
  • Perform and record Clinical Observations
  • Work with the Registered Nurse and other members of the MDT in ensuring a safe individualised approach to the admission and discharge of patients
  • To safely undertake various procedures to meet the patients needs such as ECG recording, Venepuncture, recording Blood Glucose Levels, pressure area care, wound care
  • Identify and report changes in a patient's condition to a Registered Nurse.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

  • GCSE English Language and Maths A to C or 4-9 equivalent
  • NVQ 2 or equivalent

Desirable

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent or willing to undertake a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Senior Healthcare Support
  • Care Certificate

Experience Essential

  • Experience of working in a health, social or residential care setting
  • Previous experience of being a Health Care Support Worker
  • Demonstrate a range of procedures and practices, base level of theoretical knowledge
  • Demonstrate through previous experience the ability to escalate concerns

Skills Essential

  • Ability to support patients and families
  • Plan and prioritise own workload
  • Able to manage and organise own time effectively
  • Ability to work in a multi-agency team
  • Ability to work alone or in a small team
  • Ability to work with staff from a diverse range of backgrounds
  • Ability to undertake extended tasks appropriate to competence
  • Confidence to work flexibly and to challenge established ways of working and organisational structures
  • Contribute to the on-going assessment and planning during the patients care episode
  • Demonstrate the promotion of equality, diversity and rights of others
  • Ability to complete patients records in accordance with policies and procedures
