The Senior Health and Safety Manager Role will be for Retail and overseeing Supply Chain.

Reporting to the Head of Health, Safety and Facilities, the role is accountable for developing and implementing the organisational health, safety, and fire strategy, providing expert advice to organisational stakeholders on health, safety, and fire matters, and influencing and contributing to the development of organisational policies and procedures.

The position holder will communicate health and safety performance and initiatives across the organisation, act as the primary point of contact for health and safety matters with external stakeholders, and report on incident trends and statistics.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Strong implementation skills, excellent communication, and team leadership with a proven track record of developing compliance with health & safety.
  2. Engagement of all levels of an organization to improve the overall safety culture.
  3. Embedding ownership and accountability of health & safety within site management teams while maintaining operational awareness.
  4. Keeping abreast of legislation and compliance requirements, assuring business awareness, and facilitating necessary changes to maintain legal business operations.
  5. Building working relationships with governing bodies, local authorities, and primary authorities’ partnerships.
  6. Supporting the development of the strategic business plan regarding H&S initiatives, projects, and targets.
  7. Leading all legal compliance requirements for the business, auditing as necessary to identify gaps, and assisting in gap planning needs, offering solutions and guidance.
  8. Developing and maintaining health and safety policies and procedures and keeping key business duty holders informed and instructed.
  9. Building business strategy around health and safety management.
  10. Developing a site management system for the control of health and safety, meeting the requirements of relevant guidance.
  11. Developing and leading the H&S Team & wider teams on health and safety projects.
  12. Provision of an effective safety monitoring and control regime including programmes of visits, inspections, spot checks, and audits, prioritizing high-risk activities.
  13. Forecasting, reviewing, and controlling budgets for health, safety, and Fire Strategy.
  14. Working with all relevant key stakeholders (Store Operations, Distribution Services, Property, Legal) to develop and maintain a positive safety culture.
  15. Collaborating with other stakeholders to support business units with Pest Management controls.
  16. Providing comprehensive training programmes on safety procedures and compliance requirements.
  17. Leading the business's risk management software agenda to ensure a data-driven system is in place.
  18. Managing the health and safety team, setting suitable KPIs for the delivery of H&S and Fire strategy, and reviewing direct reports' performance.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essentials:

  1. Relevant health and safety experience gained in a multi-site retail/service industry.
  2. Level 6 Occupational Health & Safety Qualification.
  3. Fire Safety Qualification.
  4. Memberships within Health & Safety/Fire Organisations i.e., CMIOSH, MIFPO.

Desirable:

  1. Experience in Transport Occupational Health and Safety Road Risk.
  2. Experience in contract management, procurement, and governance contracts.
  3. Experience with Primary Authority Partnerships.
  4. Experience in Pest Management.
  5. Experience in the Pharmacy/Healthcare sector.

Hours: 37.5 | 9.00am - 5.30pm - Hybrid working available depending on role responsibilities with 2 days working from home and 3 days in our stylish, modern, and collaborative office close to East Croydon Station.
