So what are we looking for?

We are currently looking for a Senior Head Chef who has a passion for good food, has excellent organisational skill to support the Executive Head chef in the management of a large-scale catering company. This is a role that requires you to manage your time between the kitchen, where you will be supported by a Head Chef and the office, where you will be supporting the Executive Head Chef in the broader management of the kitchen. We are seeking an individual who is organised and methodical in their approach, in addition to being a good problem solver and having the ability to logistically plan. The right candidate will have a solid background in cooking at a high standard, ideally with management level experience of another event catering company, large hotel, or similar business.You should be a good communicator, who is competent at motivating and developing a large team of chefs, as well as communicating effectively across departments.

You will be based at our large Central Production Unit, where alongside the Head Chef you will be responsible for the daily management of the kitchen. This Includes ordering produce and supervising the preparation of dishes to a high standard before they are transported to venues across the South West and beyond for finishing and delivery to the client. Our venues range widely from permanent sites and wedding venues, through to large marquees, office launches and intimate dinner parties.

Duties and responsibilities

• Working alongside the Head Chef to ensure the smooth daily operation of the kitchen at the Central Production Unit.
• Facilitating effective communication between the chefs and the events team to ensure the seamless delivery of all events to an exemplary standard.
• Assisting the Executive Head Chef in the development of seasonal, innovative dishes and bespoke menus.
• Maintaining service and quality standards from food sourcing, through to production and delivery.
• Delivering budgeted food GP and managing food stock to reflect the level of business.
• Communicating and negotiating with suppliers to ensure the finest quality produce is obtained for the best price.
• Managing staffing of freelance and full-time chefs and producing rotas to achieve budgeted labour costs.
• Assisting the Executive Head Chef in producing reports on the key performance indicators of food, GP and labour budget.
• Maintaining and implementing a system of dish specifications, which ensures consistency in quality, portioning and cost.
• Managing all aspects of food and health and safety processes to ensure that the business is fully compliant and maintaining the highest standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the kitchen.

Other skills

• Unendorsed UK drivers’ licence
• Good comprehension of Microsoft office, particularly excel
• Level 3 in food safety
• Food allergen training

salary range of £30 – 35k (depending on experience)

5 days a week

Typical shift pattern 3 x prep days, 1 x late start, late finish, 1 x all day.
