Senior GNC Engineer - Algorithms and Simulation

Holt Executive is partnering with a cutting-edge space technology company to find a Senior GNC Engineer to join their expert team.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on advanced Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) systems, contributing to the development of rendezvous, proximity operations, and docking (RPO) missions that are shaping the future of space sustainability.

About the Role: As a Senior GNC Engineer, you will be responsible for developing and validating trajectory planning, guidance algorithms, and navigation filters for complex spacecraft rendezvous and docking operations.

You will work closely with flight dynamics, software, and systems engineering teams to create robust, fault-tolerant GNC solutions that ensure mission success.

This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in GNC algorithm development, aerospace simulations, and system-level analysis, looking to contribute to next-generation space missions.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Design, implement, and validate GNC algorithms for RPO and spacecraft manoeuvres.
2. Develop simulator models to support guidance and control system validation.
3. Ensure configuration control and logical management of GNC software solutions.
4. Support software architecture development, leading towards an integrated GNC software solution.
5. Conduct research into state-of-the-art GNC algorithms and implement innovative solutions.
6. Collaborate with QA and production teams to transition GNC developments into scalable solutions.

Essential Skills:

1. Bachelors or Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering or a relevant discipline.
2. Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink, Python, and C/C++ for aerospace simulations.
3. Strong experience in GNC algorithm design (e.g., navigation filters, guidance strategies, control systems).
4. Experience in fault-tolerant GNC system design and software development.
5. Understanding of systems engineering principles and best practices.
6. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team.
7. Strong problem-solving skills, balancing innovation and on-time delivery.

Desirable Skills:

1. Knowledge of GNC rendezvous sensors and pose estimation techniques.
2. Hands-on experience with GNC hardware Assembly, Integration, and Verification (AIV).
3. Familiarity with Active Debris Removal (ADR) and RPO mission concepts, such as ESA CleanSpace projects, DARPA Express, or DEOS.
