Job description

Do you have experience as a Geotechnical Design Engineer within the water utility sector or other highly regulated industry?

Can you demonstrate a strong Geotechnical understanding, with the ability to produce accurate GI specifications?

The opportunity
Our client is a design engineering consultancy mainly working on the Utilities/ water and Rail sectors. Due to an increase in projects, they are currently seeking an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to provide design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements due to their extensive amount of Water related workload they have been awarded.

Location: Stretford, Manchester
Rate: £56.25 Ltd per hour (subject to an IR35 assessment confirming outside status)
Contract role: 12 months minimum / Ongoing
Hours: 40 hours per week (open to hybrid working of 2 days from home and 3 days from their offices)

Varied projects across the UK water industry, including:

  1. Designs of shafts
  2. Designs of below ground water storage tanks
  3. Directional drilling designs
  4. Analysis of ground information and geotechnical design reports for both shallow and piled foundations in rail and water industries

Your duties and responsibilities will be:

  1. Provide design deliverables that satisfy safety and quality requirements.
  2. Produce design calculations and drawings.
  3. Direct and develop CAD technicians and more junior designers and graduates.
  4. Prepare design investigations, reports and specifications.
  5. Design in compliance with relevant technical, professional and group standards.
  6. Ensure project change for design package is fully implemented and recorded.
  7. Undertake work using formal processes and procedures.
  8. Estimate hours required for design packages.
  9. Present and attend IDC/KM7 meetings and design presentations.

You will have the following qualifications & experience:

  1. 10 years' relevant design experience in geotechnical and/or civil engineering.
  2. Good geotechnical understanding including ability to produce GI specifications, interpretive reports and design reports.
  3. Graduate or HND.
  4. Good level IT.
  5. Registered with a professional body and working towards chartership.
  6. Experience working in a regulated infrastructure industry (e.g. rail, utilities, nuclear, highways, oil & gas).
  7. Results focused.
  8. Strong technical knowledge.
  9. Developer of self and others.
  10. Problem solving.

It's great if you also have the following:

  1. Chartered engineer.
  2. Experience in geotechnical and civil engineering design.
  3. Awareness of GI and construction methods and materials.
  4. Knowledge of Engineering Drawing Practices.
  5. Experience working in the water or railway industries.
