Senior Forensic Occupational Therapist - Littlemore - Oxford

This role includes an RSU allowance of £1,446 per annum on top of your salary

We are recruiting for a Band 6 Senior Forensic Occupational Therapist to join our team at the Oxford Clinic in Littlemore and make a real difference to our patients' recovery journey.

The Oxford Clinic is a medium secure male unit with up to 32 inpatients across three wards including acute, rehab and specialist wards with individuals detained under the Mental Health Act and/or the criminal justice system.

Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you'll contribute to risk assessments and use these to keep patients and staff safe. You'll carry out MOHO assessments and use this model to formulate an evidence based treatment plan for your designated caseload which you will evaluate using TOMS and the MOHOST.

Main duties of the job

  • Managing a varied and complex caseload.
  • Providing evidence-based and client-centred occupational therapy interventions.
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating Occupational Therapy interventions using the Model of Human Occupation and TOMS.
  • Involving patients in the co-production of their own care plans and in the development and evaluation of OT Treatment Interventions.
  • Recording treatment progress and CPA reports on RIO.
  • Providing leadership for junior/non-registered staff and students through supervision and appraisal.
  • Participating in the planning, development, and evaluation of the Occupational Therapy service.
  • Being a key member of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Contributing to the maintenance and development of the trust-wide Occupational Therapy service.
  • Actively participating in the education of Occupational Therapy students.
  • Engaging in teaching/presentations of specialist skills for professional development.
  • Helping the OT service to become more sustainable.

Job responsibilities

The position will be based at The Oxford Clinic on the Littlemore Hospital site in Oxford, a 32 bedded male medium secure forensic unit. The unit is comprised of 2 wards, an acute assessment ward and a rehabilitation-focused ward.

We are an innovative service, continually developing and strengthening our Occupational Therapy provision based on the Model of Human Occupation. Staff are expected to undertake in house training in trauma informed care. There is also the opportunity to undertake external Sensory Integration training. We provide patients with vocational opportunities on the wards and in the community and have strong links with the Forensic Recovery College.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Professional registration with HCPC
  • Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Additional training in Mental Health

Experience

  • Experience working as a qualified O.T, preferably in mental health.
  • Experience of caseload management/complex conditions & cases
  • Experience of working in Forensics
  • Experience of using MOHO and/or TOMS

Skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with patients, carers & colleagues.
  • Supervisory skills

Management

  • Time management for workload
  • Ability to prioritise
