Job description

THE ROLE

We have an exciting opportunity to join our client in Sheffield as a Senior Fluids Engineer. This role would join their engineering department and play a crucial role in delivering complex solutions for the steel and aluminium rolling industry. In this role, you will work alongside our multi-discipline teams, contributing to the design and implementation of projects throughout their full lifecycle. You will provide technical solutions from conception to completion, tailored to our customers' needs. As a Senior Fluids Engineer, you will propose and design hydraulic and fluid utility systems, including water, air (pneumatic), oil lubrication, and emulsion systems. While this role is predominantly office-based, occasional international travel will be required to visit customers and suppliers.

To succeed in this role, you will need enthusiasm, a customer-focused approach, and the ability to integrate into teams as well as work independently when necessary.

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Collaborate with a multi-discipline engineering team to meet project requirements.
  2. Manage budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
  3. Produce documentation, including block diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, Bill of Materials, and calculations for various fluid systems.
  4. Ensure equipment design and manufacture meet required standards, budgets, and timelines.
  5. Provide technical support to ensure equipment is manufactured, tested, installed, and commissioned according to design and operational requirements.
  6. Participate in equipment inspection, testing, and commissioning activities at manufacturer and customer sites.
  7. Support the proposals team by producing technical specifications and scopes of supply for fluid systems, including equipment costing for proposal bids.
  8. Develop and maintain relationships with customers, suppliers, and sub-contractors to ensure successful project execution.
  9. Work with the Plant coordination team to layout fluids equipment in 2D and 3D environments.
  10. Ideally, support and/or participate in 3D plant pipe routing and interfacing using Plant3D (or similar plant piping software) to create piping orthographic and isometric drawings.

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Knowledge and understanding of fluids power and/or utility systems.
  2. Appropriate engineering / technical qualification and/or equivalent experience.
  3. Awareness of best engineering practices including relevant standards and legislation.
  4. IT literate including competence in Autodesk products such as AutoCAD and Plant3D.
  5. Ability to communicate efficiently on both technical and non-technical issues.
  6. Knowledge and experience of the design, manufacture, erection and commission phases of capital plant projects.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Must have current UK Driving License, as well as the right to live and work in the UK and travel internationally without restrictions, if required, occasionally at short notice. The following are desirable requirements for the position:
