Job description

Senior Financial Services PR and Media Relations Manager, UKI

UK&I BMC Level 4 Associate Director
Reports to UK Head of Corporate Communications and EMEIA FSO External Affairs Leader

The opportunity

As a Senior Manager in the PR and Media Relations team, you will lead the development of proactive external communications campaigns and content that enhance and protect EY’s reputation in the media and with key external stakeholders. You will also provide a bridge between the UKI and FSO BMC teams to ensure alignment on GTM activity and to manage external and reputational risk.

You will act as a trusted advisor to senior Partners in the UK, including members of EY’s leadership team, working collaboratively with colleagues from across Brand, Marketing and Communications (BMC) to build campaigns that support the firm’s strategy.

This role will report directly to the Head of Corporate Communications and will be responsible for managing and coaching other members of the team.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Lead the Financial Services external communications strategy around key narratives that support the firm’s BMC Strategy and defined areas of EY’s UK business (e.g. sectors, geographies and service lines).
  • Work collaboratively with BMC colleagues in UKI and FSO to develop compelling campaigns that reach a broad range of stakeholders, maximising the PR and external affairs opportunities by using a full range of PR and external comms tactics.
  • Work closely with the UK Head of Corporate Communications on corporate and reputational issues, as required.
  • Develop strong relationships with key senior EY stakeholders, including members of the UK leadership team, to provide senior counsel and advice on communications strategy, issues and reputation management.
  • Work closely with the UKI Financial Services Leader to lead their external profiling strategy across press, social media and engagement with senior stakeholders.
  • Coach, manage and develop other members of the PR and media relations team, to build an inclusive and high performing communications function.
  • Build and maintain effective journalist relationships to support EY’s BMC strategy and manage risks.

Skills and attributes for success:

  • Experience of working with and influencing senior executives / leadership, including on reputational issues.
  • Project management skills to deliver flagship campaigns spanning BMC.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, proactive and ambitious for the team and the brand.
  • The ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks at one time.

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • Proven experience of creating and executing external communications (PR and social media) strategies that support business objectives.
  • Experience creating strong content for leaders and corporate social media accounts, with a focus on LinkedIn.
  • Experience of working with a broad range of stakeholders, providing counsel and advice, to build integrated communications and marketing campaigns.
  • Experience in issues and crisis management.
  • The intellectual rigour and creativity to make complex and sometimes technical subject matter compelling and newsworthy for press and other external stakeholders.
  • A deep understanding of PR and media relations strategies, including social media.
  • Proven ability of forming strong and effective working relationships with journalists and other external influencers.
  • Strong journalist relationships in the national business press.
  • Team and people management skills – a strong team player and lateral thinker, comfortable working collaboratively, virtually, and independently.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Significant experience of media relations and corporate communications for large and complex organisations.
  • Experience of public affairs and stakeholder management as part of wider communications campaigns.

What we look for:

  • A highly commercial and influential external communications specialist with the ability to manage and execute large scale PR and media relations strategies.
  • Experience in B2B communications preferred.
