Job summary
AAT qualified or part qualified CCAB, the post holder will be responsible for maintaining the capital accounting records, control accounts, technical accounting expertise, monthly journals and other financial tasks including assisting the Senior Technical Accountant with month and year end. They will also play a key role in modelling the behaviours outlined in the Trust values.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain on a monthly basis the capital additions spreadsheet.
- Maintain the summary cost sheet for large capital projects.
- Prepare quarterly capital additions figures to update asset register.
- Ensure VAT is recovered where appropriate on capital expenditure (liaise with external consultants and HMRC as necessary).
- Prepare year end capital schedules for inclusion in the year end accounts.
- Ensure the asset register is reflecting assets correctly.
- Raise and post annual indexation and monthly depreciation journal.
- Maintain a reconciliation of the revaluation reserve account.
- Reconcile the asset register back to the figures held in the general ledger.
- Prepare balance sheet control accounts on a monthly basis and raise journal corrections as necessary. The control account includes various creditor, debtor and payroll accounts.
- Act as the main liaison between the Trust and VAT external support.
- Continually review procedures and controls relevant to own role, and managed areas.
- Support and work closely with the Senior Technical Accountant on producing the year end accounts specifically relating to Payables.
- To directly manage and support staff development within the Financial Services Department.

- CCAB Qualified or part qualified.
Experience

- Expert knowledge of Financial Services, NHS & NHS Foundation Trust financial regimes, financial and non-financial aspects of NHS legislation.
- An advanced practical knowledge of NHS legislation & policies (e.g. FTARM and underpinning accounting policies) and legislative and accounting requirements.
- Additional specialist knowledge on accounting for VAT as it relates to the Trust.
- Previous experience in a role within financial services.
- Experience of staff management.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Outlook and Excel.
- The ability to communicate information to colleagues, other hospital staff and individuals outside of the organisation in a confident and professional manner.
- The ability to pay close attention to detail in written and electronic communication and information storage.
- Demonstrate proficient written communication skills.
- Be proactive in organising, prioritising and adjusting own workload in relation to the priorities of the department on a daily basis.
- Strong analytical and judgmental skills.
