Senior Finance Advisor – Education Sector Specialist

Location: Surrey – Remote with regular travel to clients’ premises
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: £45k+

Our client, a leading provider of financial services for the education sector, is seeking a highly motivated Finance Consultant to join their talented team. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional passionate about making a positive impact in the education sector to take on a key role within a growing company.

Position Overview

As a Finance Advisor, you will play a crucial role in supporting educational institutions in managing their finances effectively. You will work closely with school finance staff, providing training on relevant finance software, offering absence cover for senior finance roles, and assisting with monthly management accounts, budgets, and forecasts. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with financial regulations and best practices, ultimately contributing to the overall success and sustainability of the schools and academies we serve.

Responsibilities

  1. Train school finance staff on relevant finance software and best practices.
  2. Provide absence cover for Senior Finance Manager and Finance Controller roles.
  3. Prepare monthly management accounts and assist with school budgets and forecasts.
  4. Aid clients and auditors with financial statements and year-end audits.
  5. Advise clients on best practices based on the Academies Financial Handbook.
  6. Ensure client work is scheduled appropriately and maintain communication with line managers regarding workload.
  7. Arrange client work logistics and promote our services to potential clients.
  8. Maintain a strong presence on LinkedIn and keep up with sector changes.
  9. Conduct training and development for junior team members.

Requirements

  1. Proven experience in a finance role within the education sector.
  2. Strong knowledge of financial regulations and best practices.
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
  4. Proficiency in relevant finance software and Microsoft Office suite.
  5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.
  6. Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and strong work ethic.
  7. Commitment to career development and self-reflection.
  8. Confidence to interact with clients in challenging situations and resolve team issues effectively.
  9. Accountancy qualification – ACA or ACCA Qualified preferred.
  10. Experience working in the education or charity sector.
  11. Knowledge of PS Financials/IRIS Financials software would be desirable.
  12. Be dedicated to delivering the best possible service to clients.
  13. Be professional and presentable.
  14. Have exceptional communication skills with the ability to speak to individuals of all levels.
  15. Hold a full UK driving license and have access to your own vehicle.
