We are seeking an accomplished and experienced Senior Engineer to own the specification, design, deployment, and commissioning of the elements of our clients' product deployments. Our partner designs, manufactures, installs, and maintains sensor and navigation products, both on land and on water.

In general, you will be required to carry out the procurement, build, and commissioning of key systems components but are likely to require substantial input and expert guidance before, during, and after this. You will be required to advise upon, review, and sign off work at every step of the project while additionally working with a number of other engineers, architects, and developers to establish what products are needed and how they will integrate into the wider system.

This is a broad technical role, and it is essential that the successful candidate has a solid background in infrastructure/systems with a focus on IT/comms systems deployments in challenging environments.

The Systems Delivery Team normally works from the Cardiff or Bath office, and the expectation is that you would be present in the Cardiff office several days each month, during which you are also required to travel. International travel is possible (and paid for).

Responsibilities

  1. During the pre-contract phase:

  4. Consider technical suitability of potential third-party suppliers.
  5. Engage in technical discussions with ICPs, vendors, suppliers, and wider members of the team and company on how the products and their technology will integrate with other systems and infrastructure.

In the post-contract phase, it is implicit that the role will be carried out hand in hand with the ICP and/or other specific sub-contractor/field teams and will be responsible for assessing and approving their work for compliance with the agreed requirements.

Cost management and budget compliance is implicit in all the specific work outlined below.

Depending on the specific element of the site deployment, the role will be required to execute some combination of specification, design, documentation, deployment, acceptance testing, and approval for the site. Implicit in this is working with procurement teams within the company and the ICP to liaise with third-party suppliers and complete highly professional and comprehensive documentation and drawings. This will include:

  1. Site mains power, back up power provision, ensuring core systems are not compromised by power fluctuations and outages.
  2. Civil works specifications and designs for comms towers, site building infrastructure.
  3. Communications network infrastructure to the site, ensuring resilience and reliability.
  4. Specifying and designing mobile sites for land, sea, and air. Testing and approving correct operation and compliance of associated deliverables.
  5. Specifying and designing site security systems, including physical perimeters, cameras, and entry systems.
  6. Specifying safety systems, fire alarms, and fire suppressant systems.
  7. Specifying climate control systems to support requirements for human users and temperature control for equipment.
  8. Fixtures and fittings, including control room furniture, lighting, flooring, etc.
  9. Provision of training to internal support staff on site systems, and to ICP and end customers as required.
  10. Creation of maintenance and troubleshooting documentation for use internally, by ICPs and customers.

Minimum Requirements

  1. At least 7 years of experience specifying, designing, deploying, and commissioning field installations in civil/electrical projects.
  2. Experience of IT/telecoms projects is highly desirable.
  3. Experience of wider datacentre infrastructure and network architecture components.
  4. Experience in working with real-time sensor equipment focusing on radar and surveillance technologies and their integration with wider systems.
  5. Experience of working in challenging locations around the world.
  6. Capable of producing high-quality documentation and drawings.
  7. Substantial experience of working with third-party suppliers to deliver systems and integrating sub-systems into the overall site.
  8. Ability to effectively manage costs to a strict budget.
  9. Able to operate confidently in front of customers, and sensitive to other cultures.
  10. Able to produce and deliver clear and concise stakeholder reports and presentations.
  11. Willing to travel globally, regularly, and for periods of up to two weeks at a time.
  12. A high level of personal organization and ability to plan and execute work without continuous involvement and supervision from others.
