Job

Please note this advert is for the Senior Engineering Leader - Fire vacancy. We are also recruiting for a Senior Fire Engineer (ref 047605). If you would like to be considered for both roles, please apply to both individually.

Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.

Transport for London (TfL) Engineers are always looking forward. Join us in one of our Central Engineering, Transport System Engineering or Infrastructure Engineering teams and, as well as maintaining legacy assets, you’ll deliver new systems and solutions. This is about connecting communities and creating opportunities, so we’re ready for the 21st century and beyond.

Day-to-day, your focus will be on delivering designs, drawings, information, calculations and enhancements that keep vital, innovative and big-budget projects moving. You’ll make sure assets are safe, working and compliant; develop your own solutions; and be a trusted source of engineering advice for everyone, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery.

As a Chartered Engineer, as part of the Fire Engineering team, you could be:

  1. Responsible for delivering Fire Engineering services throughout the TfL Estate, defining scope, controlling life safety and other business risk and compliance with associated standards. A in-depth working knowledge is required of Building Regulations Part B, BS 9999, BS 9992 and BS 7974 and knowledge of TfL Fire Standards would be advantageous.
  2. As a systems-based fire engineer, you could be embedded within projects and you would be responsible for scoping, site monitoring and delivery of fire safety systems throughout the network. This would involve site inspections, preparation of technical reports, assurance and handover of active and passive fire safety systems during the process. You will engage with relevant stakeholders within TfL, LFB and external contractors. You will need a good knowledge of British Standards and TfL Standards would be desirable. You will work throughout a project's life cycle, including feasibility and delivery of operating and maintenance information.
  3. In either case, you could be working under delegated authority to review and approve Fire Strategies and/or fire systems design and/or installations.

As a Senior Engineering Leader, you will look after a team of direct reports, including resource management, TfL’s visions and values, and their development under Our People Leaders framework.

The more teams you’ve led, the better. But it’s important you bring a passion for the TfL Vision and strategy too. That’s because, wherever you join us, you’ll explore work of unparalleled scale, scope and variety across a unique range of projects, as you build your career and expertise.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. We want to represent the city we serve, which will help us become a more innovative and efficient organisation. Our goal is to make our recruitment as inclusive as possible. We are a disability confident employer who guarantee an interview to any disabled candidate who meets all of the essential criteria.

Application Process

Please apply using your most recent CV and Cover Letter.

We encourage you to apply for the position that is most relevant to your existing skills, knowledge and experience as shortlisting is carried out on the basis of how well you meet the criteria for the role.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 23rd March 2025 @ 23:59

In return for your commitment and expertise, you will enjoy excellent benefits and scope to grow. Our benefit package includes:

  • Final Salary Pension Scheme
  • Free travel for you on the TfL network
  • Reimbursement of 75% of the cost of a standard class Ticket for National Rail travel from home
  • 30 days annual leave plus public and bank holidays
  • TfL is committed to work-life balance, operating a hybrid working approach where business and role requirements allow
  • Tax-efficient cycle-to-work programme
  • Retail, health, leisure and travel offers through the MyTfL rewards programme
