Network Rail Training are seeking an individual to set our digital and legacy telecoms training strategy to enable our customers and Region colleagues to have a capable and competent workforce.
Brief DescriptionThe role incumbent will lead on devising the strategy, its implementation plans and also act as our subject matter expert for the ongoing maintenance of our telecoms portfolio and new training solutions.
Network Rail owns and operates its own dedicated Command and Control digital radio system, based on the legally mandated GSM-R / EIRENE specifications. The system was installed between 2002 and 2012 and is likely to be in operation until the late 2030s, and possibly beyond. The system supports both operational voice and data services, and in areas where ETCS has been deployed, failure results in trains being unable to move. The system contributed to saving lives and has enabled the railway to continue to raise levels of safety and performance.

- Support the analysis, design, development and implementation of new training solutions
The Ideal CandidateThe successful candidate will need a good working knowledge of both the legal framework in which telecoms systems operate and an understanding of system deployment within the UK rail environment. The role will play a significant part in the support of asset management strategies and policies associated with the service and asset development of GSM-R and its successor systems.
Essential- Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience (Level 6)
- Membership of a relevant technical body
- Broad technical engineering experience of the telecoms discipline
- Project or financial planning and management experience
Desirable- Management or supervisory experience
- Chartered status
- Formal Project Management qualification (e.g. APMP, PRINCE2, PMIP, MSP)
- Proven ability in managing commercial, contractual, and financial issues
- Knowledge of the railway industry and an understanding of railway infrastructure
