Job description
About Network Rail

The railway has seen nearly 200 years of technology and innovation that has transformed how we provide services to passengers and freight customers.

Technology is continuing to transform the railway industry. Imagine an exciting environment where Digital, Data, and Technology (DDaT) are not just buzzwords but the driving force behind every operation, every decision, and every solution. Network Rail Training are seeking an individual to set our digital and legacy telecoms training strategy to enable our customers and Region colleagues to have a capable and competent workforce.

Brief Description

The role incumbent will lead on devising the strategy, its implementation plans and also act as our subject matter expert for the ongoing maintenance of our telecoms portfolio and new training solutions.

Network Rail owns and operates its own dedicated Command and Control digital radio system, based on the legally mandated GSM-R / EIRENE specifications. The system was installed between 2002 and 2012 and is likely to be in operation until the late 2030s, and possibly beyond. The system supports both operational voice and data services, and in areas where ETCS has been deployed, failure results in trains being unable to move. The system contributed to saving lives and has enabled the railway to continue to raise levels of safety and performance.
