As a global leader in cybersecurity, CrowdStrike protects the people, processes and technologies that drive modern organizations. Since 2011, our mission hasn’t changed — we’re here to stop breaches, and we’ve redefined modern security with the world’s most advanced AI-native platform. We work on large scale distributed systems, processing almost 3 trillion events per day. Our customers span all industries, and they count on CrowdStrike to keep their businesses running, their communities safe and their lives moving forward. We’re also a mission-driven company. We cultivate a culture that gives every CrowdStriker both the flexibility and autonomy to own their careers. Ready to join a mission that matters? The future of cybersecurity starts with you.

About the Role:

CrowdStrike’s Sensor and Language Tooling team is part of the Detections Platform group. We provide custom programming languages and tools that other engineers at CrowdStrike use to define system behavior and event flows.

We are adding an additional senior engineer to work on internal compiler tooling written in Python, and detection systems implemented in our domain specific language. In addition to the compiler itself, the team owns a number of common pipeline and runtime features, and team members frequently work in multiple domains and languages.

CrowdStrike is a remote-first organization and you’ll be collaborating with developers in many locations. This role is in western Europe (UK or EU) but the team is spread between US, Europe and Australia.

What You’ll Do:

  • Maintain and improve a domain specific language compiler codebase and feature set, written primarily in Python
  • Design and implement new language and compiler features
  • Solicit and integrate feedback about design proposals and user needs
  • Debug cross-platform and integration issues, working closely with other teams to ensure safety and reliability
  • Design and write integration and end-to-end tests
  • Balance operating independently with regular user interviews and intra-team coordination
  • Shape the direction and roadmap of our tools and architecture

What You’ll Need:

We are looking for people who:

  • Show a track record of shipping quality software
  • Can dive into a complicated code base where changes require careful attention and puzzle solving
  • Have architectural and design experience building software across many system layers
  • Show strong technical communication skills, including presenting, software architecture documentation and user feedback solicitation
  • Are excited to improve performance and user experience
  • Take responsibility for their work, and see feedback as an opportunity to iterate
  • Have an interest in compilers and how they work
  • Understand fundamental computer science concepts
  • Can communicate, collaborate, and work effectively in a distributed team
  • Have significant experience in analysis and implementation of data structures, algorithms, and software design

CrowdStrike is a computer security company, but we do not expect candidates for this role to have prior security industry experience. We will mentor and train in security topics as needed. We do expect a strong interest in CrowdStrike's mission and a willingness to grow into a position consulting on system design decisions and coordinating with other teams across the company.

Bonus Points:

  • Strong Python coding skills
  • Experience designing and developing compilers and programming languages
  • Understanding of and facility with software optimization and performance improvements
  • Experience working with programming language tools or broadly distributed systems
  • Knowledge or familiarity with current research and trends in systems languages such as Rust or C/C++
  • Experience with or interest in formal modeling tools such as Agda and TLA+
  • Solid coding and debugging skills in other languages, especially C, C++ and Swift
  • Experience with event processing systems or message passing languages

Benefits of Working at CrowdStrike:

  • Remote-friendly and flexible work culture
  • Market leader in compensation and equity awards
  • Comprehensive physical and mental wellness programs
  • Competitive vacation and holidays for recharge
  • Paid parental and adoption leaves
  • Professional development opportunities for all employees regardless of level or role
  • Employee Resource Groups, geographic neighbourhood groups and volunteer opportunities to build connections
  • Vibrant office culture with world class amenities
  • Great Place to Work Certified across the globe

CrowdStrike is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to fostering a culture of belonging where everyone is valued for who they are and empowered to succeed.
