Senior Engineer | £85m Hotel project | Scotland

About the Client:

SSA are recruiting on behalf of a Design & Build Contractor who are a leading name in the industry. The company has been established for over 40 years and has a track record of delivering high density city centre schemes, often as mixed-use projects or as stand-alone buildings.

They are involved in traditional and design and build projects predominantly within the Residential, Student Accommodation, Hotel & Commercial sectors.


About the Role:

They are currently seeking a Senior Engineer for a £85m hotel project in Glasgow. Reporting to the Site Manager, as Senior Site Engineer you will be an integral part of an on-site management team tasked with delivering a quality project, on budget, safely and on time.


About the Responsibilities:
  1. Supporting the Site Manager with daily operations as required.
  2. Acting as the main technical adviser on site for specialist subcontractors, including groundworks and concrete frame contractors.
  3. Setting out, levelling, and surveying the site; temporary works checks, temporary works co–ordination.
  4. Checking plans, drawings and setting out co–ordination.
  5. Prior knowledge of calling off reinforcement from schedules and ability to read reinforcement drawings.
  6. Ensuring that all materials used, and work performed are as per specifications.
  7. Detailed record keeping of QA inspections on a daily/weekly basis where required.
  8. Managing, monitoring, and interpreting the construction design drawings supplied by the structural engineer, architect & MEP engineers.
  9. Liaising with any consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the general workforce involved in the project.
  10. Day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring of the supporting engineering team along with the site labour force and the work of any subcontractors.
  11. Planning the work and efficiently organising the plant and site facilities in order to meet agreed deadlines.
  12. Overseeing quality control and the implementation of the company management of health & safety on site.
  13. Preparing reports as required for senior site manager & project manager.
  14. Pro–active approach to resolving any unexpected technical difficulties and other problems that may arise and associated reporting to senior site manager and project manager.
  15. Work with Site Manager and Project Manager to develop and implement programmes of works for sub-contractors and labour on site.

About the Requirements:
  1. A Degree / HND in engineering or other relevant discipline.
  2. A current valid CSR / CSCS Card.
  3. A minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience.
  4. Previous experience of setting out £5m+ structures.
  5. Previous experience of calling off reinforcement and ability to read reinforcement drawings.
  6. Operational knowledge of current Health & Safety regulations.
  7. Excellent communication and planning skills.
  8. Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  9. Self-motivated with a drive to achieve results.
  10. IT literate with a sound knowledge of Microsoft Office packages and AutoCAD.
