ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Senior Energy Consultant, with specialist experience in energy system modelling, ideally whole system modelling for projects such as Local Area Energy Plans (LAEPs) and/or DFES.

The ideal candidate will possess deep energy systems expertise combined with a high level of modelling skills and proficiency. You will have skills across a variety of modelling languages and platforms (e.g. Excel, Python) and have experience in building complex models in a commercial environment. It is expected that you will be capable of leading a team of modellers to achieve high-quality outputs whilst keeping the team on time and on budget.

We want someone who is passionate about developing appropriate, value-added models to help local areas and the grid decarbonise.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable with client management, able to identify what value the modelling brings to clients and able to communicate modelling outputs to non-technical stakeholders.

They will be involved in delivering a range of other net zero projects such as heat decarbonisation, heat network feasibility, and renewable energy assessments. The successful candidate will take an active leadership role in projects, delivering technical insights to clients through an open, trusted, and consultative approach.

They will support the continued growth of our business, through delivering upon our team’s wider commercial targets; such as through identifying future opportunities and delivering high-quality tender responses.

Key responsibilities will include:

  1. Project management (delivering projects in the relevant technical area to high-quality standards, on time and within budget)
  2. Ownership of projects from end to end: developing customer requirements, developing and agreeing costed research plans, ensuring data acquisition, investigating raw data, delivering robust analysis, building tests, and completing reports.
  3. Strategic direction on modelling methodologies, including embedding industry-wide best practice
  4. Responsible for producing high-quality technical reports and presentations
  5. Conducting advanced data analysis
  6. Supporting the growth of our energy and net zero client offering and portfolio of projects, both supporting and leading the delivery of tenders as appropriate
  7. Experience in a consultancy environment, with experience in developing complex energy system models
  8. Proven track record in managing and directing successful delivery of complex energy projects and programmes as Project Manager or Technical Lead
  9. Deep technical knowledge and understanding across energy systems
  10. Ability to lead independently and effectively delegate to remote teams and review project tasks
  11. Ability to communicate modelling outputs to a range of stakeholders, technical and non-technical
  12. Degree in a technical or scientific field
  13. Experience with Local Area Energy Planning (LAEP)
  14. Experience with Local Heat & Energy Efficiency Strategies (LHEES)
  15. Experience with District Heat Networks
  16. Advanced python and GIS
  17. Experience in software version control, Git
  18. Experience with database management and languages (SQL)
  19. Masters or PhD in a highly technical field

Benefits:

  1. Remote first with flexible working arrangements
  2. Opportunity for career progression
  3. Opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across the consultancy business
  4. Paid membership of a maximum of two institutions
  5. 25 days annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays and annual leave buy and sell policy
  6. Enhanced Maternity and Paternity policy
  7. Membership of our group pension scheme
  8. CycleScheme
  9. Group Life Assurance
  10. Employee Assistance Program
