Senior Electronics Engineer

Newton / Foxton

Cambridgeshire

Hybrid Working

This job is responsible for the design and development of electronics hardware.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Electronics design and development; simulation, schematic capture, PCB layout & BOM.
  • Prototype functional testing and verification.
  • To undertake work as per development processes, procedures, and specifications.
  • Hardware and firmware technical documentation and document control of electronics drawings, BOMs, and firmware.

General Tasks

  • Strict compliance with the quality, occupational safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Implementation of the instructions of the quality/environmental management representative and the occupational safety specialist.
  • Designing products with a Stage-gate process.

Experience, Education, Skills, Training and Competencies

Required

  • Good understanding of analogue, power, and digital electronics with extensive experience of microcontroller-controlled systems.
  • Minimum Degree in Electronics Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven post-graduate design and development experience in industry.
  • Proficient in Schematic entry and PCB layout using Altium.
  • Other EDA tools as required.
  • Hands-on electronics experience – use of standard laboratory test equipment.
  • Good organisational and analytical skills.
  • Experience working as part of highly multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Good team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills - Proficient in English.

Desired

  • Experience designing electronics for harsh and extreme applications.
  • Experience of EMC and safety standards.
  • Good soldering skills.
  • Experience of firmware development.
  • Integrated Development Environments as required for firmware development.
  • Firmware and hardware Version Control Systems (VCS).
  • Experience using Mathcad.
  • Windows / Microsoft Office.
  • Experience working with Atlassian products – JIRA, Confluence (desirable).
  • Foreign language skills an advantage.

Travel Requirements

  • Occasional foreign travel may be required.
