Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior EHS Coordinator to join our team at our Exeter plant. This is a full-time permanent position.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering professional EHS services, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, and supporting the development and implementation of EHS strategies. You will play a critical role in providing technical guidance, managing training programs, and liaising with both internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure full compliance with UK legislation and company standards for environment, health, and safety.
  2. Provide technical advice and support for a complex manufacturing site.
  3. Design and deliver training programs, including toolbox talks, permit writing, risk assessment, and emergency procedures.
  4. Maintain training databases, matrices, and annual schedules.
  5. Assist with internal and external auditing processes.
  6. Manage annual health surveillance programs and sampling processes.
  7. Serve as the key point of contact for the Occupational Health program and contract.
  8. Maintain COSHH systems and provide guidance to site team members.
  9. Support and develop a team of local shop floor EHS Coordinators.
  10. Demonstrate an understanding of Human Performance processes and their role in safety management.
  11. Accurately report and investigate incidents and near misses.
  12. Actively participate in the site emergency team, providing leadership and on-site attendance when required.
  13. Engage with key internal and external stakeholders, including contractors, regulators, and enforcement agencies.
  14. Maintain the H&S Legal Register.
  15. Complete and review risk assessments and safe systems of work in accordance with current legislation and company standards.
  16. Adhoc travel when required.

Communication and Working Relationships:

  1. Advise, communicate, and direct on health and safety matters.
  2. Promote a positive health and safety culture across the site.
  3. Work closely with BU Management, Plant Management, Engineering, HR, and Corporate EHS.
  4. Collaborate with Operations, Supervisors, and Trade Union Representatives.
  5. Liaise with regulatory authorities, local councils, and contractors.
  6. Work effectively with the Occupational Health provider and Zurich insurance.

Qualifications

Essential:

  1. 5+ years of experience in an engineering or manufacturing background.
  2. Strong working knowledge of UK and European health and safety legislation.
  3. NEBOSH Certificate.
  4. Degree in Health & Safety Management or equivalent experience.
  5. Proven EHS professional with excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  6. Good understanding of behavioural factors/human performance.
  7. Ability to negotiate and influence the actions and decisions of others.
  8. Experience working with ISO management systems.

Desirable:

  1. NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Chartered membership of IOSH or equivalent.
