This international team is responsible for handling high-quality research, reviews, commentaries, and bespoke events that drive thought leadership in clinical microbiology and related fields. They build close relationships with research communities to offer personalized services to authors while ensuring the publication of exciting, thought-provoking content. About the Role

The position requires building close relationships with research communities to offer personalized services to authors while ensuring the publication of exciting, thought-provoking content. Additionally, the role includes significant community engagement and political activities to leverage change, reflecting a commitment to both scientific excellence and societal impact.

The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues to fine-tune manuscripts and adhere to all quality control standards. This role is integral to maintaining the high editorial and production standards of The Lancet Microbe.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and maintaining links with the international medical microbiology and infectious diseases communities, and scanning the current literature to aid in the identification of suitable material and authors for the journal.
  • Organising peer review of articles and other written material and negotiating with authors.
  • Writing editorials, news items, and other material for the journal or website; sub-editing material from all sections of the journal to improve clarity of expression, and to conform to journal style, and the limits of the space available.
  • Checking galley proofs and cross-reading journal pages, both as paper copies and on screen.
  • Attending conferences and other events, to represent the journal, to identify suitable topics and authors and to keep up to date with current developments.
  • Checking of monthly website updates and selection of material for homepage; assist with press releases as required.

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a team and keep to strict deadlines.
  • Negotiation skills with members of the medical profession, the media, and other editors.
  • Knowledge of biological and medical sciences.
  • Good use of English.
  • Writing skills.
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and EM.
  • Some editorial experience, preferably at Senior Editor or Assistant Editor level.
  • Relevant writing experience.
  • Ability to work independently, but also to collaborate closely with other team members.
  • Ability to work well under pressure; familiarity with IT systems: PCs, databases, word-processing, publishing software, email, and internet.
