Senior Ecologist

Responsibilities

Leading a range of protected species surveys you will prepare and/or oversee PEAs, EcIAs, HRAs, BNG Assessments and mitigation strategies.

Using QGIS and other graphics packages to prepare high quality technical drawings such as Habitats Plans and Biodiversity Enhancement Plans.

You must also be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential

1. Relevant ecology / biology degree (2:1 or above desirable)
2. Protected species survey experience, including some personal species survey licences
3. Habitat survey experience (ideally with UKHabs) and sound botanical skills
4. Strong working knowledge of relevant wildlife legislation
5. Excellent written English and verbal communication skills
6. Skilled with MS Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
7. Hard-working and willing to take on new challenges
8. Highly organised, able to multi-task and work effectively within our team of experienced ecologists
9. Forward thinking, with a keen interest in staying up to date with the latest survey techniques, guidance and innovations
10. Willingness to undertake 2-3 night-time surveys per week during the peak survey season, including overnight stays (accommodation and subsistence paid)
11. Full, clean UK driving licence, with own car insured for business use
12. Membership of CIEEM (ideally ACIEEM or above)

Desirable

1. An area of technical specialism where you could contribute strongly (e.g. ornithological skills)
2. FISC level 4 or above (or working towards)
3. Working towards additional protected species survey licenses
4. Expertise with QGIS or other GIS packages
