The Senior Director, Internal Communications is a global leadership role, responsible for owning and managing the strategic development and implementation approach for Internal Communications across NTT DATA, Inc.
Reporting into the SVP – Employee Engagement and Transformation, the role holder leads all aspects of internal communications in support of global strategic organization priorities. A key part of the role is CEO communications and leadership engagement, working closely with the CEO office. The role coordinates and oversees global initiatives through a global matrixed IC network covering regions, business units and global functions.
What you'll be doing
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy:
- Develops an integrated Internal Communications strategy aligned to the organization's strategic priorities, to maintain and increase employee engagement, satisfaction, Employer Advocacy, client service excellence and ultimately sustainable business performance and growth.
- Provides input into the wider overall approach to employee experience and maintains and/or develops tools, and solutions to measure effectiveness.
Leadership and advisory:
- Leads the implementation of global initiatives through collaboration with peers, the global IC network, People and Culture team, Marketing and others, to ensure an integrated end-to-end approach.
- Leads, inspires, coaches and motivates direct report/s, helping them to achieve their career ambitions.
- Oversees and supports Global Functions communications, including strategic People and Culture-related initiatives.
- Embeds and champions best practice and communication capabilities across the business, with leaders and teams, providing IC best practice advisory through the organizational network.
- Manages IC interface with NTT DATA Group Corporation Japan and NTT Holdings, Japan.
- Supports leaders to better understand the drivers of engagement and to communicate feedback and on-going improvements that enable a continuously improved employee experience.
CEO, Leadership and Transformation communications:
- Working closely with the CEO office and leadership team, the role holder drafts strategic CEO messages, including financial results, CEO updates and crisis communications, amongst others.
- Provides advisory and supports content direction, coordination and delivery for CEO-led events such as leadership forums and annual leadership conference.
- Works closely to support and advise Exec leaders on global employee communications topics as required.
- Support and advisory to the Chief Transformation Officer and Transformation Management Office.
Employee communications, messaging and content development:
- An exceptional writer, the role holder will draft, review, edit and deliver a variety of global engaging communications, key messages and talking points.
- Responsible for ensuring strategic message alignment across the network, reinforcing organizational priorities and initiatives.
- Employee Communications initiatives span a global calendar of activities including but not limited to topics such as strategy, financial results, growth Gen AI, transformation, diversity, equity and inclusion, people agenda topics, etc.
- Manages crisis communications as required in collaboration with External Communications, Business Continuity, IT and CISO teams.
Channel strategy:
- Plays a key role in maintaining and evolving the global channel strategy, ensuring industry best practice and effectiveness, working in collaboration with IT and others to effectively reach target audiences.
- Identifies and implements new channel approaches, technologies and innovations.
Measurement, insights and planning:
- Plays a key role in the employee engagement and IC measurement strategy and framework. Reviews and actively analyses insights from employee surveys. Contributes to the global listening strategy.
- Uses metrics and insights generated to drive improvements in communication and engagement.
- Responsible for global planning and scheduling (air-traffic control) to effectively plan, align and sequence global activities and strategic messaging.
Knowledge, Skills and Attributes:
- Proven track record in advising senior leaders.
- Superior collaboration and interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of leadership.
- Ability to project gravitas and confidently convey subject matter expertise to peers, teams, and leadership.
- Proven experience working globally / cross-culturally and in a matrix environment.
- Ability to manage several programs/projects simultaneously in fast-paced environment often interrupted with immediate support requirements. Must be able to prioritize workload that may demand working extended hours on occasion as necessary.
- Able to be hands-on as well as strategic. A team player who leads by example, with high accountability for his/her actions.
- Excellent writing, presentation and communication skills. An outstanding writer with the ability to interpret leadership tone and style, create compelling messages that provides all levels of employees with a clear line of sight to business strategy.
- Outstanding judgment, with a balance of confidence, maturity, refinement, and high energy.
Significant and vast, global understanding and experience of:
- Strategic employee engagement and Internal Communications incl principles, channels, messaging strategies, tools and measurement.
- Leveraging advanced communication tools and platforms to drive efficiency and engagement.
- Creating and executing tactical communications and a track record of delivering solid, measurable results.
- Developing innovative solutions to enhance employee engagement and communication effectiveness.
- Ability to develop and execute short and long-term strategies that enhance employee engagement and communications in alignment with function and organizational goals.
- Lead teams (direct and indirect reports), mentoring professionals, and influencing cross-business collaboration.
- Data analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives and inform strategic decisions.
- Ability to navigate sensitive situations with strategic communication and conflict resolution skills.
- Collaboration with senior leadership, cross-functional teams, and key stakeholders.
- How to manage and execute large-scale employee engagement events and communication campaigns.
- Employment laws, regulations, and compliance related to communication and employee engagement.
Academic Qualifications and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Qualifications or further studies in Employee Engagement and/or Internal Communications or Public Relations.
Required Experience:
- 10+ years’ experience within an employee engagement and/or internal/external communications leadership role.
- Experience of managing multiple time-critical projects in a global role, managing a network of colleagues and ensuring team goals are achieved or exceeded.
